Chapter Three

I wish I could be the one, the one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand, I know the way to go, no one's guiding me - Avenged Sevenfold's Unholy Confession

Thirty minutes before midnight.

The night air was thick, laden with humidity from the promised thunderstorm. A few flashes flickered against the night sky, illuminating almost everything that was underneath for a few seconds, before fading into a low rumble in the distance.

The concert had ended since at least an hour ago, and Sasuke found himself standing outside the Music Manzz, leaned against the back entrance of the building. A bored expression present, as he glanced to his side where his blond companion was crouching near his feet.

Unlike himself, the blond looked so thoughtful, his gaze was focused elsewhere, it made Sasuke wish for one moment, he could get into Naruto's head.

Sasuke watched the blond and unsure whether or not he should disturb the other's peace.

But then, "Hey," Sasuke began lamely.

Naruto looked up at him. "What?"

"Why are we here again?"

"Why, I believe we got invited by Shikamaru for some drinks?" Naruto stood up, leaning right beside his best friend.

Yup that's right. After the gig, Naruto left their table at the corner so suddenly and rushed through the crowds. Sasuke had to wait for the blond for at least fifteen minutes or so, before the blue eyes teen returned with sparkly face. It was when Naruto had announced that Nara Shikamaru, the Charlotte Gone Bad's drummer, invited them for some drinks, hence their position at the back entrance.

"So," Sasuke drawled out, "are you gonna ask him to join us instead?" Sasuke scratched at some patches on his pale skin that were just stung by a mosquito.

"That's my plan. After all, Shika said that he wasn't getting along with the other members."

"Then why did he bother to join the band at the first place?"

Naruto shrugged and looked up at the dark sky. "I dunno. I might have to ask him for the answer."

Silence fell between the two friends. But it wasn't long before two guys striding through the entrance. One was Shikamaru himself, and the other was a long black hair guy with pale eyes that wasn't part of the band, Sasuke knew.

Why you might want to ask? He was Naruto's ex-fucking-boyfriend.

"Hey, Shika!" Naruto wasted no time to greet Shikamaru, before he turned his attention to the pale eyes man with a small gasp. "Neji!" The blond wrapped his arms around the taller man, and was immediately pulled into a welcome embrace. "I didn't know you're here!" Naruto exclaimed, still had Neji's arms wrapped almost protectively around his waist.

Neji pulled away just a little so he could look at the blond in the eyes. "Well, for one, I never told you that I was planning to go to Konoha. But if I knew that you would want to be here as well, I should have asked you to go here together instead."

Naruto pouted at the taller man. He and Neji still got their conversation going for some more, but Sasuke just had to tune that out, and decided that the cracks on the wall were more interesting than their chattering.

It wasn't until Shikamaru chimed in, "Hey guys, you think we could take this little reunion up to a room?" did the blond realize the other boys' presence.

Naruto pulled himself off Neji's embrace, and moved instead to Sasuke's side, a gesture that made Sasuke brighten up after he felt a little put out when the blond focused his attention solely for Neji.

"Shikamaru, meet my best friend, Sasuke-bastard," Naruto chirped.

Shikamaru smiled a tiny smile toward Sasuke, and offering his hand just to be polite. Knowing Shikamaru, he probably thought it was plainly troublesome to meet new people.

As Sasuke shook hands with Shikamaru, Neji glanced at Naruto, smirking. "You're not going to introduce me to your friend, Naru?"

Naruto threw Neji a playful punch at the arm, while Sasuke put an arm across the blond's shoulders tentatively.

Neji raised one of his eyebrows at Sasuke's act of possessiveness over the oblivious blond.

Sasuke and Neji had known each other for quite sometimes, and in fact it was Neji who had introduced Naruto to Sasuke. They just couldn't really get along with each other, for the sake of a good time.

Smirking knowingly, Neji greeted Sasuke. "Uchiha." The long haired teen nodded.

Sasuke responded to the Hyuuga with a clipped "Hn."

***

The four of them stopped at a bar to get some drinks. Sitting on one of the booths next to a huge ass window, they started to talk, well Naruto talked to Neji, while Shikamaru tried his hardest to not sleeping on the table, and Sasuke simply resting his head against the clear glass of the window, and peering out toward the central park.

Sasuke was too out of it, that he had missed the conversation between Naruto, Shikamaru and the blasted Hyuuga, when he heard Shikamaru muttered a "Troublesome…" before continuing with a sigh, "Well I don't know guys. I'm graduating this year too. As troublesome as it is, I have to be more serious about my future."

"Wait a minute there, Shika," Naruto protested, wrapping a hand on Shikamaru's wrist as the pony tailed drummer gave an indication of wanting to leave. "Does that mean you don't want to play in a band anymore?"

Shikamaru flicked his eyes lazily to Naruto, as Neji fixed him a gaze, agreeing with Naruto.

Removing his hand from under Naruto's firm grip swiftly, Shikamaru walked out of the booth, but then he turned around after a few seconds.

"If you guys want to hook up with me, Naruto, you better get one hell of a lead guitarist, and you, Neji, get yourself a vocalist, but not just 'a vocalist'. You know the catch."

Sasuke saw how Naruto had slumped in his seat, even only for a few seconds before his blue eyes dancing with mirth. Shikamaru caught this and scowling, "Not to insult you, Naruto. You're a pretty decent guitarist… it just that… uh…" Shikamaru scrambled with his words as Naruto chuckled.

"No need to explain yourself, Shika. I know it would only give you a knot in the head," Naruto offered jokingly, smiling, twirling a finger near his temple, before he glanced toward Sasuke at his side. "I don't mind playing as Sasuke's rhythm," he said this while still staring at the onyx eyes young man, "You really need to listen to his playing, Shika."

Sasuke couldn't help but feeling his heart soar to the ceiling and beyond at the blond's endearing statements.

Shikamaru turned his lazy stare from Naruto to Sasuke, measuring him for awhile, before returning back to Naruto with a 'whatever' clear in his eyes. Naruto's response was a bright smile, and he let Shikamaru off with himself. Well, not quite, because Neji was chasing him, wanting his share with the drummer. But, Naruto wasn't really interested in their exchanges, for he was smiling brightly, almost mischievously, to Sasuke who simply staring back at him in question.

"Whatever you're planning, Dobe," said Sasuke warily.

Naruto merely grinned at him, until a hand on his shoulder making him to turn his head to the side, and Sasuke to groan inwardly.

"Yeah, Neji?" Naruto asked, noticing Shikamaru's back as the drummer strolling to the café's entrance.

Eyeing Sasuke with a hint of enmity, Neji spook to the blond, a little too hesitant for his liking, "Naruto, can I talk to you for a while?"

Sasuke counted from one to ten, and back again. Wondering if he could interfere Neji's and Naruto's so-called 'talk' He was still in the booth that he and his previous companions had been occupying before, regarding the outside world through the glass of the window. The premonition of storm had become more and more prominent after all this time.

Time? Oh right, it was just an hour after midnight. Sasuke had to wonder, when would the bar close? But then again, it was a bar, and was supposed to open 24 hours. Right? No, not right. He had been left alone in a bar in a town he barely familiar with, with an almost… empty feeling inside.

So where was the blond dobe again?

Right, Neji took him for a talk.

And what was there to talk about that Sasuke wasn't supposed to know?

The blond was his best friend, alright, no longer than what Neji used to have with the blond. But, they always told each other stories and secrets. And if Neji would ask Naruto to take him back, what was so big about it anyway? Sasuke wouldn't… mind…

Sasuke pulled out of the booth. Unable to stop himself. And before he realized he had walked down the bar to find the blond dobe. Feigning a walk toward the restroom, Sasuke's head moved left and right, almost non-discreetly.

A few more steps toward his fake destination, he saw the blond, and Neji, standing toes to toes in the corner, barely hidden under the dim light of the bar. Sasuke watched as Neji pressed so close to Naruto's front and had his hands on Naruto's hip.

Sasuke stood rooted in his place. He didn't even realize how he had stopped breathing.

Sasuke saw Naruto glanced at the Hyuuga as the pale eyes spoke, gesturing emphatically with his hands. A plea was in Neji's eye, and Sasuke could see that look on the Hyuuga's face, that look that said, "Please, take me back." How pathetic.

But Naruto looked sad. He bowed his blond head down, looking at his toes as if they were the most interesting things in the world. And then the blond looked up. His eyes soft, Sasuke could almost see the glaze in those deep blue pools

Sasuke saw the way the blond licked his lips nervously, but he didn't answer right back. And then the hand that was on the blonde's hip moved to cup the scared cheek.

Sasuke didn't even realize the way his fingernails cut into his palms, as he watched Neji leaning over. Face moving down, lips closing in.

No one else in the room had noticed, but Sasuke. All far too intoxicated to register anything other than their own drinks. Why would anyone want to witness the two ex-lovers closing together like it was the last time? Not Sasuke. In that matter, he didn't want the image to burn his eyelids. He quickly grabbed his cell phone and pressed down the dobe's speed dial almost violently.

Oh how he hoped the blonde's cell would blast the fucking Beast and The Harlot, Naruto had so lovingly assigned as Sasuke's ringtone, just in time before Neji kissed him.

Sasuke smirked evilly when the blonde's cell went off, making Naruto had to scramble in Neji's embrace to pick up his cell.

"Sasu - "

"Dobe, I'm going back," Sasuke said sharply, cutting Naruto's word, and then started to walk toward the front door. He didn't even consider waiting for Naruto to catch up with him.

***

Ironically enough, Sasuke ended up in another bar, to get more… alcohol. He wasn't quite an alcoholic. But he needed it in his current situation, sort of. Being trashed from his home, and then scattered in an unfamiliar town could make somebody an alcoholic. Ah, don't forget about almost seeing your best friend kissed a guy, your very male best friend in that matter. And not just any kind of guy, it was your very male best friend's ex-boyfriend.

Whatever was happening to me? Sasuke mulled over the odd feeling he got, not since he saw Neji, but since the very first time he got to this city. Out of all people, why would he need the blond to accompany him?

Well, for one, Naruto and he had been friends for quite a long time, the exact time unknown… He only remembered the sun was about to set when they had met, all thanks to Neji. He thought Naruto was…attractive the first time he saw the dobe. He looked like a walking ad for summer. Golden hair over tan face with three whisker-like scratches on each cheek, and eyes so blue it put the sky in shame. He remembered how Naruto was practically glowing with orange and pink hues from the sunset over his tan skin.

But no, attractive wasn't the main reason Sasuke had befriended the blond. There were times when he would enjoy Naruto's company more than anything else. With his stupid jokes and silly comments, with his way of looking so utterly attractive and tempting, with the comfort of having Naruto so close to him…

Sasuke shook his head and sighed at how gay that sounded, even in a bar with air so thick with smoke, beer and sweat that it was almost impossible to breathe. Unless of course you were too wasted to notice. And Sasuke wasn't that wasted, not yet.

As if on a cue, a massive bartender came over at him, flashing him gold teeth that would make even Jack Sparrow jealous. The bartender reminded him of a pirate somewhat.

"You need another one, mate?" He asked, indicating Sasuke's almost empty beer bottle.

"Sure, why not," Sasuke shrugged it off and downed the rest of its contents.

The bartender took the empty bottle from Sasuke's hand and returned with a new one. "Thanks," Sasuke said graciously.

"Hey, no problem," the bartender returned.

Deciding that the beer would be his last beer for the night, Sasuke thought he might had taking his time downing it, and thinking over everything that had happened in his life for a mere twenty four hours.

First there was the acceptance letter to Musician Institute, what would he do about it, should he take it or leave it, now that he had to live by himself?

The next was his father's threat. Thought it wasn't really a threat anymore now that he had Naruto's insurance of a place to stay and a paid job.

And last but not least, the highly anticipated thing the blond had proposed to him.

Sasuke looked up at the neon Heineken sign hanging above him, watching how the tube of light flickers in the dimness of the bar idly, as he mulled over his options. He could take the opportunity of studying in California and worked his ass off to pay for his living and tuition. Or, he could try to raise a band and worked his ass off to make it huge and famous and making platinum records, eventually.

Either way, Sasuke had to admit, they sounded like enormous things to cover.

Sasuke took a sip of his beer, breathing heavily into the already heavy air as his eyes suddenly came to rest on a man sitting directly across from him. Well, to say man would probably be a lie. He couldn't be a day over 17. How he got in there was beyond Sasuke. But then again, with the way he looked, Sasuke probably didn't have to ask.

The boy was not ugly. His unruly blond hair was mostly hidden by the hood covering his head. But it was his blue eyes which were lined with black that drew Sasuke's attention to him.

Sasuke could've sworn the boy looked oddly similar to Naruto.

Sasuke watched the boy downed a shot, wincing at the taste before he noticed the raven. His lips suddenly curving into a suggestive smile, winking as he nodded in Sasuke's direction.

Sasuke arched an eyebrow at his actions and the boy bit his bottom lips. Sasuke immediately tore his eyes away, trying to focus on anything but the boy, and found it hopeless. In a moment Sasuke's eyes were back on him, finding the boy still watching the raven with a beer bottle in his hand, his tongue darting out slowly, swirling around the tip.

Suddenly, Sasuke felt the heat pool in the pit of his stomach. He mentally slapping himself as it traveled further south. Sasuke was straight for fuck's sake. He couldn't start doubting his preference now, could he? But that was just pure torture.

Groaning inwardly, Sasuke shook his head as the boy smiled around the tip, before the entire neck of the bottle disappeared into the boy's mouth.

Sasuke chocked back a moan and his hand formed a death grip around his own beer bottle. Unfortunately his reaction didn't go unnoticed, and the little shit laughed around the lips of the bottle.

Suddenly, Mr. Big's Daddy, Brother, Lover and Little Boy blaring from Sasuke's cell, and it was all that he needed to help him tearing his eyes from the walking porn show. He shook his head, trying to shake the lingering image off his mind as he picked up his cell and saw the blond's name on the little screen.

"Sasuke," Naruto's voice cracked. "Where are you?" The blond sounded so worry it made Sasuke's heart leaps with guilt and… joy.

Forgetting the boy in front of him, Sasuke stood up. After all, the blond was still his priority. And now that Sasuke thought about it, the boy wasn't that similar to Naruto. At least, his blue eyes weren't as bright, as cheerful, and as full of life as Naruto's eyes. And the most important thing was that the boy didn't have that marks on his cheeks.

"Sasuke, are you going to answer me?" Naruto pushed as Sasuke stayed silent, albeit unintentionally.

"Sorry, Dobe. I'm going back to the hotel right now," Sasuke said, simply, sincerely.

A/N. I know, I know. The commonly believed legal age for drinking alcohol in the United States is 21, but it's 18 in my country. So let's just used this as reference as to how old Sasuke and Naruto were. And in my head Sasuke and naruto were both 18.

Yup, that's it for the third chapter. Please review. Ciao!
