Following up on my attempts at generic polynesian styles, I decided to sketch some Maori tattoo art styles. I believe the swirls in the negative space are meant to mostly represent ferns. Many Maori tattoos also have significance regarding a person's identity, particularly facial tattoos that can represent genealogy and ancestry, marital status, and other personal signifiers, based on the design and where it is located on the face.
