So alot of bad shit went down at Kevin's house this moring, none of it involving me, but as a result I don't think I'll be able to stay here. I'm probably going to move to Echo Lake this weekend

Part of the feeling from the psytrance families is the fact that every other genre is so against psytrance as a whole. The only mainstream psytrance party I knew of was at Nation, which was recently torn down in DC to make way for the new baseball park. This was a huge venue, at one time the biggest and best for electronica shows on the east coast, and they had a monthly that brought in Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection and others.
Anyway, around Detroit, if you mention psytrance you get sneers at best. I know for a fact that there have been three parties in Chicago, the third this Sat, for Entheon Village fundraising. This is the group that will be bringing out Alex Grey and his wife, has associations with MAPS and Erowid, but because the parties featured mixed music from the likes of Switchfocus and Bassnectar, some of the local psy kids failed to go. Not all, mind you, and part of the reason for the first one was a much large psy-only campout happening, but still.
I love everything, from Gabberhouse to ambiant, with a big bit of love for psytrance. I think, in the long run, while you may lose some support from more established psytrance groups and acts, you'll be more accepted by a greater group of people if you aren't one-genre minded. In the long run, this will help to introduce new people to the sound we all love, and even more so, the attitude we bring with that music.
If you haven't, look up Skylab 2000. He's on myspace.com, and he's local to Bmore or Philly if I remember right. He's a Burner, a live PA, and a terribly cool person. I think he may be way up, right out supportive of your little crusade of coolness.
Still hoping I have a chance to make it out to a shindig. Be well.
I guess it's not really that bad. There are only a few people in the philly/new york scene that are that elitist. It's a small group of people within the people who are actually throwing the parties. but it still really bothers me.
I met some great people from chicago who were into psytrance when i went to sacred earth. The scene in that region is so awesome. Every one I met was friendly, generous, helpful, and welcoming. It best by far the most enjoyable crowd I have ever witnessed at a festival.
You should try to make it out to kickin it lakeside. ^_^
