the following is an email sent to the entire student body. read it and maybe youll see why im looking to transfer schools.
Dear PSU Students,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the positive and very much
improved celebration following the Red Sox ALCS championship victory over
the Indians. At the same time I seek your support for an even higher level
of responsible celebrating now that our team (apologies to Indian fans and
non-baseball followers) is in the World Series.
It was good news that following game seven last Sunday, there was no
vandalism, there were no arrests, and with a few exceptions the vast
majority of us celebrated with thoughtful consideration for our neighbors,
property and our larger community. Contrast this with our 2004 celebration
involving property damage, street fires, and large crowds causing noise
disturbances that resulted in dozens of arrests and multiple immediate
student suspensions, and we have cause to feel grateful and be proud of you.
I certainly am, and again I thank you.
Where I seek your help is in two areas. Last Sunday was good though
truthfully there were too many noise disturbances that woke the elderly,
frightened children, and deprived students with early classes and workers
from sleep. That was the nature of the feedback I received. So please
let's all try to do our very best to keep others in mind and noise at a
minimum.
The worst of what happened last Sunday bothers me greatly and worries me as
we enter the World Series. Someone started an outside furniture fire in an
off-campus student neighborhood shortly following the end of the game. I
have no idea whether any PSU student had a hand in that, but I do know that
with our collective best voices and efforts we can make a huge difference.
So please let's remind each other just how damaging such acts are to our
safety, to the cost of fire and police response, to our relationship with
our valued neighbors and host community, and to our reputation as graduates
of this great university.
What remains most important, even in Sox Nation in October, is staying safe,
being good neighbors, and staying in school.
Once again, Thank you, and Go Sox!
Sincerely,
Dick Hage
VP for Student Affairs
