Right Beside You
I won't ever be the one
you come to when you're defeated;
when you've been beaten and broken and depleted
by the monsters hiding inside the sun.
I want to protect you
when you are afraid of facing the world;
when they've crushed your dreams and hurled
your beautiful fragility into a frenzied, fiery zoo.
I could love your soul,
more than anyone in this universe;
but you won't let me, so I won't let you hear me curse
my very existence in front of God, with no control.
I could make you smile,
when you've lost everything in one day
by tickling you, by holding you, by knowing what to say;
I'd be with you, every breath, every step, every mile.
I would sacrifice my body, heart, mind,
to make you feel safer, to make you sleep more sound;
My peace will come as I listen to the blood in your veins pound;
there's no place you could lose yourself that I couldn't find.
With you I have felt elation and depression,
all in the same breath, because you enrapture my soul;
the softness in your eyes permits me to lose and take control,
because you accept the chaos in my mind without question.
