In the meantime, it serves as a nightlight/mood lighting. The fairy lights strewn on my bookshelf are staying cuz they look cute and run on batteries. Thinking about getting another set to hang over our toilet cuz that part of our bathroom is pretty dim.
So! A very belated Happy New Year to all! Couldn't get around to posting earlier because we had family in town for New Year's and they just left yesterday morning. Our fridge is stuffed to the brim with a week's worth of leftovers. *blurhggg* At least I don't have to do any major grocery shopping till Sunday.
Our littlest one Rei has been feeling poorly since the day after Christmas, and I kinda suspect that either eating pine needles or drinking Christmas tree water may have something to do with it, though our other cat Luna has drank from it and she's still healthy as ever. I covered the tree base in foil since then. We've taken Rei to the vet and have been given antibiotices but we may have to take her back if she's still feeling low. Poor fluffers.
I wasn't able to complete my 2015 Reading Goal which I had pompously set at 70 books, but only finished at not-very-impressive 40-something. This year's goal is set at a do-able 50 books, which I nailed back at the end of 2014, the year when I seriously got back into reading.
Loads of memorable reads from last year, but I think the ones that stand out the most are: The Danish Girl (sob!) by David Ebersoff, The Portrait of Mrs. Charbuque by Jeffery Ford, The Book of Flying (*sobs harder*) by Keith Miller, Bird Box by Josh Malerman, and all the short story collections by Elizabeth Hand. Honorable mention for Barbara Pym, whose books I had a hard time deciding whether or not to chuck into the donate pile. I ended up rescuing them several times and they now occupy a permanent space on my shelf.
I've started off my reading year with
Mistresses of Mystery: Two Centuries of Suspense Stories by the Gentle Sex.
I can never resist an Edward Gorey cover.
And now for something completely different: The Hubs and I are moving again early this summer and we're both very excited because it's going to be very, VERY different. We're both not going to have any sort of support system/family to call on, it's just going to be us two, driving each other nuts while trying to be a team in a very new place. Yeah.
In the meantime, I'm doing a lot of sale shopping for household items like bedding and towels. Best time to shop is definitely after Christmas.
