Last Thursday night was Star Wars Date Night. We bought our tickets online last month the day after they'd officially gone on sale, and after Fandango crashed because of the sheer amount of people also trying to get tickets. Anywhoo, I had a very early morning, hadn't had a lot of sleep the night before, worked from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and when I got home I was nearly dead on my feet. Showtime was at 10:30 p.m. but because this was the much-anticipated Star Wars sequel, The Hubs and me left the apartment a wee bit early, like at around 5. But there was plenty o' traffic on the way, I think it took us more than half an hour to get to the IMAX theater. When we got there, there were people in line for the 7:30 showtime. Loads of time to hang out. We went to Bar Louie nearby for dinner.
The Hubs is very much a long-time fan of the now not!canon expanded Star Wars universe and Boba Fett.
Drinks and a book to keep The Hubs occupied till 10:30.
After dinner we still had loads of time to kill, so we got coffee at a cafe right beside Bar Louie, made fun of a gaggle of teenage girls for singing along to videos of Justin Bieber playing on the cafe tv. Well, I did most of it while The Hubs kept reminding me that I too was once a teenager. I told him that at their age, I was listening to Pearl Jam and Mazzy Star, so blehhhhhhhhh....
Thankfully we didn't stay long at that place after we got our coffee. After some time just wandering around, we decided to set up camp in the queue for the 10:30 showtime.
The Hubs had bought both a novel and a comic book, but couldn't really concentrate with the people around us talking. There was a group of friends in cosplay being loud and playing a version of this one game Jimmy Fallon plays on his show. Another group ahead of us was playing UNO. After nearly an hour of us trying to read, The Hubs suggested that we pop into another nearby bar where we could sit on actual chairs and be comfortable. "Uhhhh, how about no?" I replied. My logic was: this is STAR WARS. And I'm a stickler for staying in a queue and keeping our spot. He argued that the line wasn't too long ("There's no one here!") and that we could watch through the bar's windows to see when the line got obnoxiously long. I just gave him a look and told him I wasn't moving, and that if he was that hard up for a drink, he could go by himself. In the end, he said he didn't want to go alone and just sat it out with me, though I think he stayed irritated with me until we got into the theater, like, two and a half hours later.
Okay, fast-forward to 10 p.m. and we're hurrying into the IMAX theater. The best seats are always up in the back and close to the aisle! I will never, ever, EVER let myself be put in a position where we have to sit all the way up front at movie EVER AGAIN! Sorry, rant over.
The movie hadn't even begun when my early-ass morning caught up with me. But I managed to snap out of it before the movie started.
We ended up getting out at 1 in the morning.
Totally worth it.
Was it everything that I imagined the movie would be? Yes and no. It wasn't perfect, there was definitely a lot that could have been done better, things that could have been improved upon, but in the end it was an enjoyable movie that we would love to see again in the cinema because of the Easter Eggs we may have not spotted the first time around. I've also just discovered that I'm now slightly infactuated with Oscar Issac's character, Poe Dameron. Very dashing!
Two years till Episode XIII!? Ughhhhhhh...
