Part 9: Hard to Say Goodbye

Date: 9 April 199X

Asami watched as his lover was sleeping on the hospital bed. The regular beeping sounds ensured that Akihito was breathing normally. Now he was waiting for the blonde man to wake up and greeted him with those beautiful hazel eyes. Three days ago, he had saved his lover from Amori and his men. After Akihito fainted on his arms, he immediately brought him to the hospital. He only let the doctor to take care of him once he was certain that Akihito was going to be okay. When he listened about Akihito’s condition from the doctor, he seethed in anger. Burn marks, cut marks, whip marks, concussion, and rape wounds. To avenge for his lover’s suffering plus the bullet wound that Amori gave him, Asami would made sure to pay the favour accordingly.

Five men’s cries could be heard from inside underground chamber. The wall was soundproof to ensure that no one could hear them. The five men had been hit, whipped, cut, kicked, and burnt. Everything that they had done to his Akihito was executed on their bodies this time but hundred times worse. Asami made sure to prepare a bigger rod and a sharper whip to carry out the punishment. In the middle of the five men laid their leader. Compared to the rest, the condition of their leader was far severe. His face was almost unrecognisable as human with all the peeling skin and blood everywhere. Looking up, he begged for mercy from the man who had tortured him non-stop.

“Too bad that you have missed your little flight to Paris.” laughed Asami darkly. Among Amori’s possession, he had found a passport and a plane ticket, destination to Paris, France. Amori tried to speak, but it came out as ramblings as Asami had punched his face coupled of times, causing his mouth’s jaw to crack. “I really wanted to spend another time with you but too bad that my lover is waiting for my return. So with regret I have to end this now.” Asami snickered when he noticed Amori and his men’s relieve expression, thinking that they were off the hook. “Of course before I end the whole thing...” cut Asami coldly. “Let’s proceed to the main event, shall we.” Commanding Suoh to bring the item that he had prepared specifically for this moment, Asami glared at Amori wickedly. “A little present for you and your men.” Without glancing, he ordered Suoh. “Pour the acid to them now.” Suoh, wearing a glove, came forward with a big container. Splashing the whole content to the prisoners, Asami smirked as he heard the cries of agony coming from all of them. “Let them suffer. We’ll leave this place now.” Asami felt the sunlight hit his face when he was outside. “Dispose the body tomorrow. Kill if any of them still alive.” said Asami, giving his last order to Suoh.

“Yes, Asami-sama.” Now he just needed to take shower, then he would be back to hospital, by his lover’s side.

Asami still stared at unconscious Akihito. According to the doctor, he should wake up soon. Holding Akihito’s hand tenderly, he kissed the arm. Please wake up soon. I miss you. Slowly, Asami leaned forward to kiss the forehead. From there, he moved down to the cheek, and lastly the lip. He let his own lip to linger longer on Akihito’s lip, hoping that he would awoken the sleeping princess using a kiss from the prince. He felt the unconscious man stirred.

Akihito examined the darkness that surrounds him. He remembered this place. It was the place that had led him to the first meeting with Asami. Looking around, he noticed someone’s familiar back from afar. Running, he approached Asami. As he almost hugged him, Akihito heard someone called his name. Turning around, Akihito found another Asami who was older and more mature, standing behind him. He could feel the intensity radiating from those golden eyes. He felt his heart ache as uncertainty washed him. Is that time really my first meeting with Asami? As he looked at the older man, realisation hit him. “It isn’t true, isn’t it?” answered Akihito as the figure in front of him nodded. “I remember everything now, including my past. I have known you far longer since the day I arrived on this place.” Akihito smiled sadly as he spoke. “No wonder you don’t want to tell me anything, about the keychain and your first love. You want me to find out the answer by myself, don’t you.” Staring at those longing eyes, Akihito chuckled. “Don’t worry, I’ll return soon.” reassured Akihito. “Just give me a little more time, will you, Asami.” This time with a rare smile on his face, Asami nodded again. Then the darkness disappeared, letting Akihito to go back to his other Asami who also had been waiting for his return.

Asami immediately stood up. His heart shouted in happiness as he saw those eyes finally opened. He saw as those eyelids fluttered, trying to focus to the surroundings. “A-asami?” called Akihito as his eyes landed on his lover. Now that he had remembered everything about his past, he realised the person who stood beside and looked at him anxiously was not the Asami who he had known well. He was a different Asami. A young, a-soon-to-be more matured Asami. So I’m really in the past, huh? Everything that Asami’s father had said makes sense now.

“You’re in hospital now.” explained Asami. “Are you okay?” asked Asami, worrying about his lover condition.

“Still hurt but mostly okay.” reassured Akihito. He noticed few differences between Asami and the younger Asami. The younger Asami was more expressive compared to the older Asami who always had that unreadable expression. How could I forget everything that has happen until now? Asami, Feilong, Tao, Russian, Hongkong, ship, the past. They are precious memory of mine. All of them are related to the person I love. Akihito was caught in surprised when Asami suddenly hug him.

“I’m sorry for not able to protect you.” said Asami. It was quite unusual for Asami to apologise. Akihito was stunned until he reminded himself that this was the younger Asami, not his Asami.

“It’s not your fault, you know. You don’t know that those men are going to attack me.”

“It’s my job to protect you.” I can’t forgive myself if anything happen to you.

“Well, at least I’m okay.” assured Akihito. “How about those bad guys?” Akihito shuddered when he saw those cold glints on Asami’s eyes, probably remembering the time when he was captured.

“They’re taken care of. They’ll never able to harm you anymore.”

“Hmm.” commented Akihito, understanding the meaning behind Asami’s words. I guess Asami will always be Asami now matter what age they are. Those hazel eyes softened when they noticed a bandage on the man’s shoulder. Lifting his hand, Akihito softly touched the bandage. He was shot. He’s hurt again because of me. First is Feilong and now this. A wave of guiltiness washed his gut. Akihito knew that Asami probably did not know yet that in future he was going to get shot again for the second time when protecting him.

Asami let thos little fingers caressing his wound. He could tell that Akihito was feeling guilty for the gunshot wound. That was why it did not come as surprise when he saw Akihito’s tear started to fall. “Sorry, I’m sorry, Asami.” chanted Akihito saying ‘sorry’ for couple of times.

“It’ll heal in 2 weeks or so.” Asami let Akihito to cry his heart out as his hand remained on him, holding him protectively against his chest.

Asami Ryou remained calmly seated on his seat when his son barged his office, like he had expected it. “It’s about time you figure it out.”

“’The one who kidnap Akihito may be Amori. However, I know that you’re the one who pulled the string.” replied Asami furiously. “You told Amori about Akihito knowing well that he had grudge against me.”

“He does not belong to our world.” spoke Ryou coldy.

“He’s mine, and it will never change no matter how much you object this.” declared Asami strongly as he turned his back to his father. “One more thing, if you ever pull something like this again, father or not, I’ll never forgive you.”

“You’ll regret your decision in future, Ryuuichi.” warned Ryou. Without looking back, Asami left his father office. Nothing could change his determination anymore. He chose Akihito, and he would not let anyone to take away his lover from him. Going down to the car park where his driver awaited him, he instructed Suoh to bring him to the hospital. Today his Akihito would be discharge.

“Yay, finally! Staying in hospital is boring.” shouted Akihito enthusiastically when both of them were inside the car.

“Take it easy. The doctor said that your injuries haven’t fully healed yet. You still need to rest when we reach home.”

“Ughhh.” Akihito whined. He noticed that Asami used the word ‘home’ instead of penthouse. He grew uneasy as he realised that he would not be able to stay and live with the younger Asami much longer as he had decided to return back to the present, where his Asami was waiting for his return.

“Akihito, what’s wrong?” asked Asami when he aware of the sudden quietness in the car.

“It’s nothing.” Quickly Akihito shook his head. Changing the subject he asked. “Nee, Asami, are you free this week or maybe around next week?”

“Next week I may have time. Why?” Asami raised an eyebrow, amused.

“Let’s go for a date.” I want to at least spend more time, just the two of us, before I say goodbye.
