busy, and fanime-itis!

So, finals are coming around the corner. It looks like I'm doing okay in all but one class. Art history is giving me a bit of trouble because it's just one of those classes where you memorize a bunch of dates and facts, and all the big points are in the exams. I hate those classes so very much. I'll do my best, but I just found out that the final is going to be much harder than the midterm. Where the midterm consisted of ten pictures from our textbook and we needed to write as much as we knew about it, the final will have ten pictures we've never seen before, and based on other similar artworks we've seen we need to write where we think it comes from and possibly when. It's like the teacher is trying to make me fail, is all I'm saying. I bombed the midterm, I don't know how well it will go this time. The only thing that can save me now are the essays we had to write, but I'm not sure if those on their own will bring my grade up if I fail this test too. It's not like I can study all week either.

In 3-D art I have modeled and created lighting for a room using a photo for reference. Now comes texture, which is difficult because you have to map out the modeling onto a 2-D plane to put your textures on it. And in intro to animation we have to make a comic, which isn't that bad but extremely time consuming because I want this one to look super special awesome. If there's one thing I learned this semester, it's that making a good comic page can take all night and longer but still be worth it. So yeah, I'm busy this week.

Fanime is coming up very soon! I'm getting excited, as I do every year. It's more fun than Christmas and my birthday and spring break and summer vacation combined. All I do on those days is be at home and do pretty much average things, besides having a special dinner or a cake. Fanime is the one time I get to go out and see good friends and meet people who share my interests and buy things normally only available in Japan. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the same group as with the past four years. I know our group organizer is pretty busy, so I'm not sure with whom I'll be sleeping in the same room with. I hope to be with the same people as last year though, it was a nice set-up.

I've been training up a little on Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution. Last year I took second in the team tournament in the gaming room. I hope to win first this year, but this time I hope the top prize isn't yaoi. I also hope to get into the Smash Bros. Brawl tournament, but as it's a more mainstream game, there are going to be tons of really good people. I remember last year I thought I was good but I had a lot to learn from the people who actually train and focus on the finer details of the game.

I might be bringing my clarinet, as there will be a group playing Final Fantasy songs around the con who were asking for people to join them on the Fanime forums. It sounds like a lot of fun, even if I don't play FF games: http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,9473.0.html

I'll also be looking forward to stopping off at ensuing's booth to check out the Orichalcum book!
