Moviez

Good article about TV quality catching up to movies. I read a New Yorker article a month or two ago that I'm trying to track down online that was in a similar vein. The fact is that the only thing that movies have over TV is the shared spectacle (a large group of people watching a big screen with good sound quality). Yeah, TV puts out alot of crap and they cancel shows that people care about -- Firefly, anyone? -- but there's alot more crap in the theatres, and it's easier to invest an hour or two of your time on a TV show to see if you like it when you've already paid for the cable than to go down to a movie theatre and put out $8 bucks on something sight-unseen.

This ties into the whole DRM/iTunes store (especially Apple selling TV shows/movies) -- content providers aren't very good at adjusting to modern realities, and I think it's hitting the film industry particularly hard. If I can find the New Yorker article, I'll link to it here.
