It started with a brush under the table.
Yunho, Jaejoong and Changmin had met with Kyuhyun, Sungmin, Ryeowook and Leeteuk for a meal, the two youngest ending up together on their side of the table. It started with soy sauce, Kyuhyun leaning over to grab it, his right hand landing on Changmin's thigh and fingers when he wobbled.
It continued with Kyuhyun struggling to control his chopsticks in his left hand (claiming that he was attempting a brain exercise) while a blushing but smirking Changmin toyed with the fingers of his right.
It ended with Leeteuk and Jaejoong sending Kyuhyun to go wash the dishes.
~~~~~
"Hey."
Changmin received a faint grunting sound as response and he leant against the doorframe, watching Kyuhyun as he played one of his beloved games, the tapping of heavy keys sounding like machine-gun fire. Neither said a word until Kyuhyun relaxed, sitting back slightly and rolling his shoulders with a satisfied smirk.
"Don't start a new level."
Kyuhyun finally looked up. "Oh, hey. When did you get here?"
Changmin just rolled his eyes and shoved Kyuhyun to the side so he could plop down beside him on the bed.
"Did you want to start work?"
Changmin pulled a face and shook his head, lying down with his hands behind his head and his knees pointing at the ceiling.
"Then why are you here?" Kyuhyun asked testily.
"Because your bed is so much more comfortable than mine."
Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes and slid his foot under Changmin's drawn-up thigh to kick his butt. "You're such a freeloader."
"As if I don't give you anything in return!"
"Such as…?"
"Such as…" Changmin frowned and pursed his lips for several long moments before his eyes lit up. "Such as sitting here and preten- I mean, caring while you nerdgasm at me."
Kyuhyun whipped the pillow from under his friend's head and thwacked him with it. A reasonably quiet but furious pillow fight ensued, until Changmin ended up sitting on Kyuhyun to hold him still with both of the pillows wedged between them.
His triumphant smile quickly went nervous and he blushed, eyes dropping from Kyuhyun's face to his throat. And his shoulder, and down his arm…
His hand crept forward hesitantly, fingers brushing over Kyuhyun's palm to twine with his fingers. Their eyes met again and they chuckled quietly, both at themselves and the other. Changmin pulled away first, clambering off the brunet and placing the pillows back where they belonged.
"We should… we should study," he said quietly, back still to Kyuhyun as he grabbed the blankets by his knees.
"Okay," Kyuhyun's light voice replied behind him, making the mattress creak as he jumped off the bed.
They sat on opposite sides of Kyuhyun's desk, studying independently, occasionally asking each other a small question.
"Changmin-ah…"
"Hmm?"
Kyuhyun paused. "Does it… bother you when I… um… 'nerdgasm'-" he wiggled air quotes, "-at you?"
Changmin stared at him, eyes wide. A few weeks ago, he would have laughed. A few weeks ago he would have said 'of course, you always waffle too much. Blah, blah, blah, I zone out after the first twenty seconds,'. A few weeks ago Kyuhyun would've responded to that by pegging an eraser at his face and glaring at him good-naturedly.
Now, he almost hoped it would hurt Kyuhyun a lot for him to say something like that. He shook his head mutely, dropping his gaze back to his workbooks.
Kyuhyun bit his lip, unconvinced, but said nothing.
After minutes of ordinary, but somehow awkward silence, Changmin grabbed Kyuhyun's sock between his toes and tugged on it almost pleadingly. Kyuhyun ignored him. Changmin frowned and tugged harder, swinging his foot as if it was a dog tearing at a shoe. Eventually he just jerked it back so Kyuhyun's sock came half off his foot.
Kyuhyun leant forward and rested his chin on the backs of his hands, peering intently into Changmin's eyes.
"Changminnie?" he breathed.
"Y-yeah?" Changmin squeaked back.
"Why are you stealing my sock?"
Changmin pegged an eraser at him.
Kyuhyun laughed and reached over to Changmin's furiously blushing face, curling his hand at the last moment to flick his nose. "You."
Changmin slapped his hand away, inconspicuously biting the inside of his lip. "Bastard."
"MUFFINS!"
They both jumped and quickly leant back in their chairs as Sungmin and Ryeowook came bursting in.
"We made you guys snacks!" Sungmin announced, bouncing over and placing a plate of banana-choc-chip muffins on the desk. Changmin and Kyuhyun dived for them, their vague, shy romance forgotten in the face of food.
The two elders kidnapped the pillows from Kyuhyun's bed and placed themselves on the carpet beside the desk to share with them.
~~~~~
Changmin and Kyuhyun sat on Kyuhyun's bed, the lights off and blinds drawn, blocking the streetlamps and moonlight from entering the room. Their faces glowed in the light of Kyuhyun's laptop screen as they watched Iron Man 2. They sat close as the computer was balanced between their thighs.
Changmin glanced over. Kyuhyun seemed to be paying attention to the movie, but Changmin just couldn't. He willed his heart to slow. Nope, not gonna happen. He was glad the tinted glow wasn't enough to highlight his blush.
"You alright, Changmin?"
Changmin nodded and turned his gaze back to the screen.
About halfway through the movie his arm moved. It slid down between his and Kyuhyun's jeans, where the elder of the two's hands had already taken up residence, and brushed against his knuckles.
Kyuhyun glanced down and quickly got the hint, sliding his wrist under Changmin's and lacing their fingers together, squeezing them gently. Changmin waited two minutes before shifting awkwardly, jolting the screen, and leaning into Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun said nothing but Changmin felt the grip on his hand tighten slightly, felt Kyuhyun's head move to rest his jaw on his own head, felt his steady breathing cause his hair to flutter.
"Kyuhyun-ah," he murmured quietly, apparently quietly enough that Kyuhyun didn't hear him because there was no reply from above him. He closed his eyes, movie forgotten as he breathed in Kyuhyun's scent, and didn't repeat himself.
~~~~~
They were not alone together for several weeks, until Changmin found himself one night outside Kyuhyun's door.
He knocked on it, but was met with just the consistent sounds of Kyuhyun's game and swearing. He pushed the door open and let himself in, closing it quietly behind him. He made his way to the bed and sat just behind Kyuhyun, wanting to rest his chin on his shoulder or hug him but knowing that he couldn't.
He said nothing still when Kyuhyun won and took a moment to relax his muscles, waiting for the shorter brunet to notice him. Kyuhyun paused, frowned slightly then looked over his shoulder.
"Hey," he smiled, "What are you doing here?" he closed his laptop and put it aside. The action was significant and Changmin felt his heart lift slightly.
He smiled slightly himself and leant back against the wall, regarding his friend thoughtfully. Kyuhyun moved to sit beside him, reaching over confidently to capture his hand. Changmin happily let him, but stayed silent.
"What are you doing here, at this time?" Kyuhyun repeated softly.
"K-Kyuhyun-ah… you know how I- how I-I… I feel about you…"
"Hmm," Kyuhyun hummed in acknowledgement.
Changmin kept his eyes on their hands. "Do you… could you…?" he half-asked in a whisper.
"…Return that?" Kyuhyun suggested.
Changmin bit his lip and glanced at him, nodding once, uncertainly.
Kyuhyun moved slowly, reaching over Changmin's lap to take hold of his other hand. He got up on his knees and sat back on his heels, locking gazes with the younger as he moved closer. Changmin allowed his eyes to flutter shut as their foreheads touched, Kyuhyun doing the same as he lined up their noses beside each other and lightly pressed his lips to Changmin's. It was brief, experimental, dry lips on dry lips. But neither of their hearts had ever been more likely to jump clear through their ribs than at that moment.
"Again," Changmin whispered, and Kyuhyun obliged. This time it was a bit harder, their mouths remained closed but they put a bit more into it.
The third time Kyuhyun pulled his fingers free from Changmin's and lightly touched his cheek. Changmin's hand followed it up and laid over it, holding it to his face and stroking his knuckles. He shifted and freed his other hand, snaking it around Kyuhyun's waist and pulling him closer. Kyuhyun threw his leg over Changmin's lap, straddling him and beginning to part his lips slightly.
"Changminnie? Are you in there?"
Jaejoong's voice and harsh knocking made Changmin roughly throw Kyuhyun off him in panic, leaping off the bed just as the older man opened the door and looked inside.
"There you are. It's late, why didn't you tell me where you were going?"
Changmin felt a frown crossing his face. What was he, eleven?
Jaejoong crossed the room and grabbed his wrist, pulling him away. "Come on, let's go home."
Changmin tried to reclaim his wrist. "Why?" he replied petulantly. "I'm just- we were just-"
"It's late, let's go." Jaejoong tugged firmly and Changmin stumbled out the door. "Goodbye, Kyuhyun," Jaejoong said amiably to the room's owner and Changmin just had time to throw him a grimace before the door closed between them.
~~~~~
"We saw Changminnie, Jaejoong-hyung and Yunho-hyung when we went shopping today," Ryeowook said as Kyuhyun watched him prepare their meal.
"Hmm?" Kyuhyun grunted back, trying to convey disinterest.
"They were fighting," Sungmin added.
"Oh?" Kyuhyun deadpanned.
"Changmin-ah and Jaejoong-ah seemed pretty upset with each other," Leeteuk mused.
Kyuhyun said nothing.
"Do you know anything about that, Kyuhyunnie?" Ryeowook asked innocently.
"No."
"That was quick," Sungmin commented.
"Was it?" Kyuhyun shrugged. "I don't know anything. Why would I?"
"Well, you're pretty close with Changmin-ah…"
Kyuhyun raised his eyebrow. "And Leeteuk-hyung's pretty close with Jaejoong," he retorted and glanced at the eldest. "Do you know anything?"
The older three exchanged glances and Kyuhyun rolled his eyes to himself. Leeteuk shook his head. "No, I have no idea."
Kyuhyun tapped his fingers on the table and gazed intently at nothing. Were Changmin and his hyungs seriously fighting over him?
~~~~~
Kyuhyun looked up at the knock on his door. "Kyuhyun-ah?"
"Yeah?" he said, opening it and letting Changmin in. Leeteuk, Ryeowook and Sungmin looked up nosily from the couch. Changmin gave them a small bow.
"What are you doing here?" Kyuhyun asked him.
Changmin sighed and thrust his hands into his pockets. "I needed to get away from Jaejoong."
"Why?"
"I stopped calling him umma and he's throwing a fit, and Yunho-hyung's all pissed at me for making him upset," he muttered. "Can I stay here tonight?"
"You stopped calling him umma?" Kyuhyun raised his eyebrows.
Changmin threw his hands up. "Were you not here the other night? It's completely gone to his head!" he cried. "He gave me a lecture the whole way home about telling him and Yunho-hyung where I am, not staying out too late, and…" he faltered with a glance at the couch. "…and other stuff. And then you know what Yunho-hyung did!?"
"What did he do?"
Changmin glanced at the couch again, grabbed Kyuhyun's wrist and dragged him over to his bedroom. He closed the door behind him, pulled something out of his pocket and held it up in front of Kyuhyun's face. "He gave me these," he seethed, tomato-red.
Kyuhyun pulled his head back and blinked to focus on the packet of condoms, blushing furiously but still unable to hold back a fit of giggles.
"It's not funny!" Changmin whined.
"No, it's hilarious," Kyuhyun snorted. "Seriously…" he started laughing again.
Changmin glared and shoved them back in his pocket. "IT'S NOT FUNNY! WE'RE SEVENTEEN! IT'S GONE TO HIS HEAD TOO, HE TOTALLY THINKS HE'S MY FATHER!"
"Shhh," Kyuhyun hissed, still giggling as he wrapped his arms around Changmin's waist and rested his forehead against his shoulder. "Don't make Leeteuk-hyung come in here."
Changmin huffed, but hugged him back. "It's gone to his head," he repeated sulkily.
Kyuhyun kissed the base of his neck playfully and opened the door again. "Come on, help me get the futon in here."
"You have glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling."
"You never noticed?" Kyuhyun murmured sleepily.
"No…"
"There are constellations there."
"Are there?" Changmin fell silent for a moment. "I don't recognize any."
Kyuhyun rolled onto his back and wriggled to the edge of his mattress. "They're southern hemisphere since the northern ones are right outside," he explained quietly. "The southern cross, Orion, Capricorn, Centaurus…" he yawned. "Lupus, the wolf… The Chameleon… Musca, the fly… Phoenix…" he dropped his hand over the side of the mattress. Changmin hesitated a second before reaching up from the futon and grabbing it.
Kyuhyun chuckled. "You like my hand."
"Yes," Changmin replied immediately, "I do."
Kyuhyun squeezed his fingers. "Goodnight, Changmin-ah."
Kyuhyun's grip had gone slack in sleep, and Changmin let his hand fall. He rested it over his stomach as he looked up at the stars Kyuhyun had so carefully arranged on his ceiling.
"Orion," he whispered to himself, eyes outlining one of the ones he actually knew. "Centaurus. Lupus." He sat up and looked over at Kyuhyun, lying on his back with his face turned towards him, mouth slightly open. Changmin smiled to himself and reached out hesitantly to touch his nose.
"Kyuhyun-ah, I think I love you…"
Kyuhyun smacked his lips and turned his face into his pillow.
Changmin's smile widened slightly and he brushed Kyuhyun's hair aside, running his fingers down his cheek and chin, then his arm to his hand.
"Yes," he whispered, "I do like your hands."
Kyuhyun let out a sleepy mumble and his fingers tightened on Changmin's. Changmin glanced up to his glazed, half-awake eyes.
Kyuhyun smiled. "You can come in if the futon's that uncomfortable," he chuckled barely coherently.
Changmin didn't need to be invited twice; and since Kyuhyun was still on the edge of his mattress he clambered carefully over him to the wall side. Kyuhyun turned over to face him and snuggled in, wrapping his arms around Changmin's torso and falling back asleep.
~~~~~
Changmin had managed to fall asleep at about two thirty, and was still asleep when Kyuhyun woke at quarter past six. The older of the two sat up and rubbed his eyes, then blinked down at his snoring companion, who was splayed out and taking up most of the bed.
"Shush." Kyuhyun grabbed his ribs in one hand and gave him a shake.
Changmin's snore was abruptly cut off and he groaned, rolling onto his side and curling. Kyuhyun lay back down, shoving him over to reclaim his space.
Changmin groaned again, more petulantly this time as he started to wake up. "Kyun-ah… stop it."
"This is my bed."
"But you said,"
"Just move!"
"I have no space!"
"I'm about to fall off!"
"Unghh!" Changmin whined and pulled Kyuhyun close, eyes still closed. "Shut up and stop complaining."
Kyuhyun struggled. "Let go!"
"No."
"Why not?"
Changmin pouted. "Why do you want me to?"
"I-" Kyuhyun stopped and sighed, curling up against him. "Just stop snoring."
"I don't snore."
"You do."
"I do not!"
"You do."
"No I d-!"
Kyuhyun pecked his lips to shut him up, then dropped his head back under his chin, not seeing Changmin's bright blush (though he knew it was there).
"Now shut up or go to sleep."
Changmin slammed his fist into Kyuhyun's back. "You're such an evil tease," he complained.
"But you love me."
Changmin squeezed him and chuckled. Kyuhyun didn't notice the nervousness to it.
~~~~~
They were both woken by a high-pitched squeal. They groaned in unison and raised their heads to the source of the irritating noise, and saw Sungmin scrambling towards them with wide eyes. "Why are you sleeping together!?" he cried. "You had better be dressed or Teukie-hyung and Jae-hyung will have my hide!" he tore the blanket off and sighed in relief, immune to the death glares he was receiving as the younger boys whined out incoherent complaints. Changmin grabbed his pillow and wrapped his head in it while Kyuhyun tried to wrestle their blanket from Sungmin.
"No!" Sungmin wrenched the blanket from Kyuhyun's sleepy and weak fingers. "Get up! It's almost ten. Plus, Wookie-ah and Teukie-hyung have made breakfast!"
"Breakfast?" Changmin and Kyuhyun repeated, waking up.
Sungmin smirked. "Come on," he ordered, marching out and taking the duvet with him.
Kyuhyun sighed and tugged Changmin onto him. "Be my blanket, hmm?"
Changmin squirmed. "Kyun-ah, this is not comfortable."
"Shh."
"No, I want food."
Kyuhyun opened one eye and gave in to Changmin's pout. "Fine."
Changmin grinned and rolled off Kyuhyun - and the bed - landing on the futon with a huff. Kyuhyun peered over and barely had time to register the hand shooting past his head before he was also tugged down.
"Yah!" he complained, lacking the strength to pick himself up off the floor, wrapping himself in Changmin's discarded blankets from last night, attempting to go back to sleep.
Changmin hauled him to his feet and pushed him to the door. "Come on, Kyuhyun-ah! Food, food!"
"Quit pushing me!"
"No, you'll go back to sleep!"
"We're in the corridor!"
"You'd still go back to sleep!"
Kyuhyun grumbled to himself, unable to argue.
"Two minutes, forty-seven seconds," Leeteuk announced as they entered the kitchen.
"That's amazing!" Ryeowook said, eyes wide. "Changmin-ah, could you come over and wake him up every morning? It usually takes us at least fifteen minutes before we get him to emerge!"
Kyuhyun glared at him as he landed in the chair Changmin nudged him at, blindly pulling his plate towards him. "What's for breakfast?"
"Pancakes."
That woke him up. "Ryeowook, you're a god."
"I helped too!"
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes. "Yes, yes," he sighed. "You're an Angel, Teukie-hyung."
Leeteuk didn't look offended at being placed below Ryeowook as he beamed and ruffled the brunet's hair.
Changmin just looked delighted as he was served. "Jae-umma's breakfasts are inedible," he breathed, moaning happily as he started eating, savouring the taste as opposed to Sungmin, who was inhaling his own pancakes.
"Why?"
"So spicy," Changmin mumbled through a mouthful of mashed crêpe. "Yunho-hyung and I lose the ability to taste until dinner time. Not even kidding."
Sungmin helped himself to seconds.
~~~~~
"I ate so mu-u-uch…" Changmin groaned, sitting on the closed toilet with his head between his knees.
Kyuhyun chuckled as he pasted his toothbrush and tossed the tube to his friend. "And that is why you should not eat ten pancakes, plus coffee, in one sitting."
"But they were so good!"
"Thank you!" Ryeowook called as he passed the bathroom.
Kyuhyun brushed his teeth and Changmin manoeuvred some toothpaste around his mouth with his finger. "Well, you made Ryeowookie happy."
"Hope he never tells Jae-umma."
"Well, perhaps he could teach Jae-hyung how to cook?"
Changmin laughed. "Right. He'd probably put chilli sauce on the pancakes instead of syrup."
Kyuhyun shrugged and spat. "That's alright."
"Only if there's a little bit - and some meat as well. He'd put chilli on it like Sungmin's syrup - drown it."
Kyuhyun moved aside so Changmin could rinse his mouth. "That's kind of disgusting."
"Tell me about it." Changmin looked up and found his face inches from Kyuhyun's.
"You blush so much," Kyuhyun teased before lazily kissing him briefly.
Changmin glanced at himself in the mirror and sighed. It was true.
~~~~~
Changmin and Kyuhyun lay side by side on the grass, surrounded by bushes but with a clear view of the sky. They had left the house since Sungmin had told the others about finding them 'wrapped around each other' and all three of them wouldn't stop giggling at them and peering in the cracks around the door. Their hands were loosely tangled and Kyuhyun had his head tilted to rest against Changmin's shoulder.
"You know, we're pretty sappy."
"Yeah." Changmin chuckled. "So?"
"'So', nothing," Kyuhyun kissed Changmin's jaw. "Just saying."
Changmin kissed Kyuhyun's forehead. "I really like you."
"Yeah," Kyuhyun wrapped his arm around Changmin's ribs, lips moving over his cheek to the corner of the younger's mouth. "I like you too."
They sat up in a silent mutual decision and Changmin's fingers found their way to Kyuhyun's face as they pressed their lips together. They picked up where they had left off when Jaejoong interrupted them, Kyuhyun sliding into Changmin's lap and mouthing at Changmin's lower lip.
Changmin let out a small noise and slipped one hand up Kyuhyun's shirt, resting his hand flat against his lower back and pressing down to get him closer. Kyuhyun broke away for a split second then returned, tilting his head and deepening the kiss. Changmin willingly responded and Kyuhyun placed both hands on his shoulders, pressing him down into the grass. Changmin smiled against Kyuhyun's lips and tugged him closer by his hair.
"Just don't ever stop kissing me," Changmin whispered when they broke apart for air.
"Okay," Kyuhyun agreed, dropping back down, this time nudging Changmin's lips apart with his tongue.
Good, Changmin thought, feeling Kyuhyun's heartbeat contrasting with his own against their flush-pressed ribs.
~~~~~
"Kyuhyun-ah," Changmin said shyly, tracing patterns on Kyuhyun's chest through his T-shirt.
"Yeah?" Kyuhyun replied, eyes closed as he played with Changmin's hair.
"I lied yesterday."
"Huh?"
"When I said I liked you."
Kyuhyun's fingers froze and his eyes snapped open in confusion. He frowned slightly as he looked down at the younger. "What do you mean?" he demanded.
Changmin avoided his eyes, watching his own finger as it trailed down Kyuhyun's breastbone to his navel. "I… l-love you."
Kyuhyun stared at him.
Changmin bit his lip. "I really… think I love you."
Kyuhyun didn't know what to say, so he lifted his chin and kissed him hungrily. Changmin released a small noise into his mouth as their tongues met, and Kyuhyun laced their fingers together while he tugged at Changmin's hair with his other hand.
He didn't return the sentiment. He couldn't quite bring himself to… yet. But Changmin could satisfy himself, for now, with the taste of Kyuhyun's mouth and the security of their locked fingers.
