Chapter Seven - Coach Trips

"Hurry up, hyung!" Junsu's squeaky voice called as he stood next to me, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, attempting to shake the rain from his waterproof jacket, and successfully adding to the water dropping onto my head.

I knew Scotland was a bad idea from the moment we were told we we going to be leaving the cosy solitude that had become our hotel rooms, to venture out and spend a night in a tent. It had been freezing since we'd arrived, to the point where I had to borrow Yunho's comfortably warm and nicely scented horrible and itchy hoodie, and now it was raining. And so you may think that this trip couldn't get any worse.

Well yes actually, it could.

"Hyuuuuuuuuung!"

Junsu's whining was winding me up more than the constant water dripping onto my nose from the edge of my hood. All I was doing was tying my laces. He didn't have to wait for me. Although I would ignore him if he'd gone off and elft me alone whilst the others were treking off along the misty field where it was likely that I'd lose them. Not that there was anyone else in the field and a group of twenty two Korean teenagers and two equally Korean adults in the middle of a deserted Scottish field wasn't exactly noticeable, but I don't trust myself, or sense of direction. It would be just my luck to get lost here as it wasn't as if I was having the best of times anyway.

"Finally!" Junsu sighed exasperatedly, pointlessly emphasising his boredom by superfluously dropping his shoulders. He grabbed my hand and dragged me through the muddy grass towards the group of people who had gotten merely twenty steps in front of us due to the fact Hyun Joong's trainers kept sinking into the ground.

We rejoined the class just as Mr Choi announced that we were only half a mile away from the river we had to follow to get our coach. I hope he realised that I was going to wipe my shoes all over the seats he and Miss Lee were going to be sitting in. In fact, I might even shake my wet coat over Miss Lee's seat as an added bonus.

Of course, I wasn't planning Miss Lee's fate for the same reason as Mr Choi. He was getting it for making us trudge along in the mud for over a mile... she was getting the treatment for being an annoying whiny bitch. Since we'd left the campsite, she'd complained about the rain, she'd complained about the mud, she'd complained that she had to walk everywhere AND she even complained about the fact everyone was complaining, when she was the biggest complainer of us all! Silly woman... you wouldn't catch me complaining about... oh, right.

But still! I wasn't shrieking like a little girl every time someone else's shoe flicked mud onto my hand or clothes. I was just mad that she was the one who agreed to the trek and then moaned about it... when I wasn't too pleased about it in the first fucking place. Ugh.

I continued on anyway. All I wanted was a peaceful trip with my friends to London. I wanted to see the sights of Britain. I wanted all of that without a squeaky annoying girl as a teacher, squealing over my room mate who was trying to woo me with his failed dorkiness and shy personality. Is that too much to ask? No. It's really not.

"Smile, hyung." Changmin said as he appeared next to me from behind, "At least from here you've got a nice view of Yunho's ass."

I stared at him with widened eyes of horror - sometimes I wonder what on Earth goes through his mind about Jessica, that poor girl. He laughed his own ass off at my reaction, so I slapped him upside the head for being so perverted, sparing a glance towards Jessica to check what she was wearing today. Luckily for her, she'd decided to wear layers. Maybe she'd cottoned (no fucking pun intended) onto the fact that Changmin is a pervert - or perhaps it it was because it was pretty cold today (which everyone seemed to realise except from Miss Lee, who was wearing half-length trousers).

I tsked and folded my arms, "Even if I did want to look at his behind, that bitch is in the way."

I blinked. Did I really just say that out loud?

Yes, was the answer. I fucking did. And that really set him off into fits.

"Bitch? Now, now. There's no need to be calling Lee-seonsaengnim such things, hyung!" He sniggered, slinging an unwanted arm around my neck and grinning to himself. Well, seeing as I'd already embarrassed myself, what was the use in trying to stop now?

"I hardly consider her my seonsaengnim. Looking at her, I'd assume she was my fucking junior."

Changmin stared, "Eh? Fucking your junior?"

I hit him again, pushing him away to remove his stupid gangly arm, "No! Jeez, for a smart cookie, you're pretty hard of hearing."

"Sometimes I consider it a talent. You know some of the things that Junsu-hyung comes out with... sometimes it's much easier to be hard of hearing. Ah, Junsu... now there's someone that we can't consider a smart cookie..." Changmin said, digging in his backpack for a cereal bar that he'd saved from the hotel room he'd regrettably left behind in London.

"How long is it going to take us to get back to our hotel?" I asked, fearing the worst. It felt like we'd been here for months, so I didn't remember how long it had taken us last time, but then again, we'd been woken up early that day and therefore, I'd fallen asleep during the ride. But I was fucking wide away this morning, surprisingly. Stupid Yunho. I could've been really tired. But he just had to be nice. Stupid Yunho.

"About seven hours." Changmin said, "Last time took just over that because we got stuck in morning traffic. But it's half eleven now, so we're gonna get caught in rush hour. We'll get home at about half seven, eight." he admitted sadly, chomping on his cereal bar.

Yeah. He better be sad. Unbe-fucking-lievable. Eight o'clock?! That's just under nine hours! I don't even think I can live that long in a coach... especially if Miss Lee carried on whining.

"I can see the river!" Mr Choi announced and a loud eruption of applause ensued.

Well fucking done, Mr Choi.

God, kill me now.

[Normal POV]

Jaejoong was the last to get onto the coach, after demanding that he should be allowed to change his shoes and socks so he didn't mess up the coach and didn't have to sit in wet clothes for nine hours. When he climbed the steps in his white socks and slippers, he was met with a full bus of rowdy and annoying teenagers. Sometimes he despised his class.

Changmin was seated near the front, currently in an attempt to woo his beloved Jessica - and from what Jaejoong could see, it was working better than it'd ever done before. She was actually laughing at what he was saying. But then again, Jaejoong took a moment to realise the possibility of her actually laughing at him, rather than his jokes. Or maybe she really was finding him amusing. But probably not. Changmin was not funny.

Okay, so he couldn't sit next to Changmin. That probably meant that Junsu was waiting with a spare seat for him. Junsu had promised that Yoochun would sit next to Yunho when Changmin decided he was going to try to persue Jessica - and Jaejoong had always trusted Junsu.

That was until he spotted the sleeping face of his 'trustworthy friend' seated next to Yoochun in the corner of the back row, squashed between Yoochun himself and the hyperactive body of Choi Minho. Jaejoong frowned. There wasn't even a space for him next to Yoochun, so where was he supposed to sit?

"Ah, Jaejoong-ssi!"

Great.

"Junsu told me to save you a seat. I know that wouldn't be your first choice, but it's a little better than sitting with Heechul, right? I won't talk to you if you don't want me to." Yunho said from his seat two rows in front of Junsu and Yoochun's sleeping forms, a gap between him and the window. He'd saved a window seat. Junsu must've told him that Jaejoong doesn't sit anywhere but next to the window, right? Right? Right.

"Oh, um, okay Yunho-ssi." Jaejoong accepted as Yunho stood from his seat to let Jaejoong pass. When he buckled his belt and Yunho offered him a small smile and then went back to reading the book that he'd been reading before Jaejoong had gotten onto the bus, the latter accepted that maybe sitting here wouldn't be as bad as he thought it'd be.

*

"I do not snore! I don't!" Jaejoong defended, a smile gracing his lips despite the accusation.

"You really do. Loudly. For a while, I thought you'd wake up the whole campsite... perhaps even the whole of Scotland!" Yunho joked, laughing when Jaejoong hit his arm.

They'd spent half an hour in silence, Jaejoong gazing out the window at the passing buildings, people and roadsigns, sometimes trying to work out what they said before the coach stormed past them. Jaejoong had been relatively relaxed seeing as he was in a position that he would've considered to be a nightmare, on top of having to share a room with Yunho. Sleeping in the same room was one thing because when they were asleep they didn't have to talk to each other. But sitting together on a coach for nine hours, that was something completely different. They were both going to be awake at one point, and it'd be awkward if neither of them spoke. However, to Jaejoong, it seemed that Yunho had began to realise and respect his space by not forcing him into conversation and, actually, not bothering him at all.

In fact, Jaejoong had began to feel slightly neglected. He'd always gotten attention from Yunho, whether he'd liked it or not. Being ignored suddenly felt lonely, but he supposed that that was his fault. He was the one who'd pushed Yunho away everytime he'd tried to get close to him, even though his friends had disapproved of his actions from the beginning.

Maybe Yunho wasn't as bad as he'd first thought. It wasn't like he'd forced himself upon him. It wasn't like he'd been perverted. It wasn't like he'd tried to make a move. He'd been friendly. Yet it still wasn't enough. Jaejoong still felt threatened, just because of what had happened before. But he supposed that maybe they could be friends...

When Jaejoong had turned towards Yunho after staring out of the window for twenty minutes, he noticed that the other had fallen asleep whilst reading his book. The book itself was now lying on his lap, his head lolled to the right and resting on his shoulder, mouth wide open. And Jaejoong found himself fighting an outburst of laughter. He'd never noticed Yunho's sleeping habits. He was more focused on ignoring the guy than paying attention to whether Yunho sleeptalked or sleepwalked.

Reaching for the abandoned book by leaning of half of Yunho's body, Jaejoong came face to face with a spider, hanging by it's web from the top of the coach.

"Oh my god!" he squealed, jumping away from Yunho as if he were on fire, in an attempt to make the biggest distance between himself and the spider hanging conveniently above Yunho's crotch. In this outburst, Jaejoong managed to be clumsy enough to kick Yunho into conciousness, startling the young boy from his sleep to find the blonde cowering as close to the window as possible.

"Jaejoong? What's going on?" Yunho asked, concerned. Jaejoong shuddered and pointed to the space between Yunho's chest and the chair in front of him.

Yunho smiled gently, "It's a money spider, Jaejoong."

"I don't care, it's still a spider!" he whined, still curled up against the chair. His reaction was slightly embarrassing and girly, yet he couldn't help it. Spiders had been Jaejoong's biggest fear (right next to death) since he was little. He was adamant that it was not just a phobia that girls had. He just couldn't stand being near them, and their abnormal amount of legs. Disgusting.

Reaching up for the top of the spider's web, Yunho picked it up and watched as it started rushing towards his fingers. When he began leaning towards his right, Jaejoong started to freak out.

"What are you doing?!" he squeaked.

Yunho paused, "Getting rid of it? Isn't that what you wanted?" he asked, opening the window next to Jaejoong slightly. He dropped the web out of the window and made sure that the spider had gone with it, leaving no trace of it's presence behind. He even reached up to remove the rest of the web that the spider had scaled down from, and closed the window when he'd finished.

"Okay?" Yunho smiled warmly.

"Yes... thank you..." Jaejoong muttered, his cheeks flushing and his forehead leaning against the glass of the window.

"Next time, mind waking me up in a more gentle fashion, rather than kicking my leg like it was a football?" Yunho laughed, readjusting his position to a more comfortable one again from when he was disrupted.

"Sorry." Jaejoong almost whispered, "It was just surprising. It might've gone on you! Or worse, in your mouth..."

Frowning, Yunho continued to stare at the blonde, who was oblivious to the attention, continuing to stare out of the window. Yunho didn't know what he'd prefer. Being noticed and being told that he was being really strange, or being ignored and granted the oppourtunity to just stare at the boy beside him. He realise that he should probably catch the other's attention, just to stop looking like a creeper.

"In my mouth?" Yunho questioned, cocking his head to the side to appear in the corner of Jaejoong's line of vision.

Jaejoong turned, "Yes. You sleep like this." he said, imitating the way Yunho's head had leant on his shoulder with his mouth in the shape of a huge 'o'.

Yunho nodded shyly, "Oh right, yeah. Wouldn't exactly be a nice sight for a partner to wake up to, would it?" he laughed uneasily.
Jaejoong's smiled faltered a little, imagining Yunho sleeping beside Miss Lee. Her waking up and seeing him with his mouth wide open and her stupid annoying giggle as she woke him up slowly and told him he was sleeping 'like that' again, before leaning in to give him a kiss and...

What the fuck?, Jaejoong thought.

"No." he laughed shakily, a hint of embarrassment at his thoughts. Still, Yunho feigned obliviousness, continuing to laugh to hold back the awkward moment they shared.

"At least I don't snore though..." he pointed out, watching Jaejoong's expression change at the impliment. Which was what brought them to a light conversation. If no one had known them on the coach, they could've assumed they'd been friends for ages, laughing over things that had happened in years gone by. And weirdly, Jaejoong felt comfortable with it all. Yunho felt like a long lost brother. They talked about anything. Family, friends, pets, favourite colours, favourite TV shows, funny stories they'd heard.

"You're interesting, Jaejoong-ssi." Yunho said, slightly nervous as Jaejoong lifted his gaze to the former's. He didn't want to ruin whatever they had created in the last hour. He'd enjoyed being accepted. He loved not being scrutinized in his actions and his words. It seemed that with Jaejoong, he was playing with fire and waiting to be burnt.

"You're interesting too, Yunho-yah." Jaejoong said, biting his lip as soon as the name had left his lips. Since when did he start calling him 'Yunho-yah'?! He tore his eyes from the others, a blush decorating his cheeks and an embarrassed expression lingering on his lips. He really didn't want Yunho to think that they were getting that close. Sure, Jaejoong liked talking with him. And Yunho really was interesting. But what if this was a plan to lure him into a false sense of security and then do something unspeakable to him...

It was here that Kim Jaejoong decided that he was a little paranoid.

Leaning forwards, Jaejoong retrieved the book that had been abandoned when he had kicked Yunho into conciousness due to the dangling spider. Pride and Prejudice. Jaejoong managed to smile as he passed the book back to it's owner, cursing inside that he and Yunho shared the same interests in literature. Although he was impressed that Yunho was reading the English version, rather than the translated Korean version.

"I can't read properly in English." he admitted as Yunho took the book from his hands.

"I'm using it for practice. I know the story and I love it so I assumed that it'd be the best way to practice reading English." Yunho said, flipping through the pages briefly before placing the book safely into his satchel - and Jaejoong was glad that he hadn't acknowledged the slip up in wording that he'd made seconds ago.

Jaejoong smiled, "I love Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennet is an amazing character."

"I prefer Darcy. He's mysterious. And has a difficult time expressiong his feelings towards Elizabeth. It makes him stronger." Yunho said, eyes on Jaejoong's reaction.

"I'd like Darcy much more if he admitted how he felt for Elizabeth in the first place, instead of messing up the relationship between Jane and Charles."

"But he only did it to help his friend. He's a good-hearted man. He loved Elizabeth a lot, but they were both awkward and stubborn with each other. It's what made them perfect." Yunho said and from the look in his eye, Jaejoong sensed that their conversation wasn't just about Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy anymore. But before he could do anything , they were interupted by a harsh brake from the coach driver.

And from there, several things seemed to happen all at once. The coach skidded a little on the motorway, the driver trying to straighten it out as he shouted profanities at the idiot boyracer who had pulled out in front of them all. Screams had erupted from all over the coach out of fear, Junsu jolting and kicking the back of Jaejoong's seat, Yoochun waking from being smacked in the face by Junsu's shoulder. He heard Kwon Boa and Park Gahee squeal from the front of the coach, something about ruined lipstick and broken nails. But the thing that bothered him the most was the fact that Miss Lee had suddenly appeared from nowhere, into Yunho's lap.

She'd been checking the students by wandering up the aisle when the coach had braked, her screech matching the high-pitch of the tyres squealing against the metal of the brakes. She'd managed to fall onto Yunho's lap, who had been almost as surprised as her, his arms reaching out instinctively to catch her fragile body.

"Oh god, Lee-seonsaengnim! Are you okay?" He fretted, lifting her to stand by the armsas he unbuckled his seatbelt to stand up too.

She smiled weakly and bowed slightly, "I'm fine, Yunho-yah. Thank you so much for catching me." she said sickly sweet and continued to clutch Yunho's bicep.

"Choi-seonsaengnim! You shouldn't be sending Lee-seonsaengnim to be doing your dirty work!" Yunho called out jokingly, and Mr Choi's laughter became apparent from the front.

"Ah, Sunkyu-yah! Come and sit back down. I bet you had a nasty shock! Lucky Yunho-ssi was here to help you!" Mr Choi said, laughter colouring his voice to lighten the situation. Miss Lee sent Yunho another smile before taking Mr Choi's arm to return to her seat.

"We'll be stopping in thirty minutes for a toilet and snack break, kids!" he announced just as he reached the front again.

Yunho sat back down in his respective seat, smiling at Mr Choi's strange and sudden laid back attitude. He buckled his seatbelt again, suddenly realising that he hadn't paid any attention to Jaejoong since the surprise brake. What if he'd hit his head on the window, had passed out and was still bleeding? He turned himself towards Jaejoong, who was sat on his seat as if nothing had happened in the past two hours. He was staring out of the window, knees up, thumbnail in his mouth, iPod earphones blaring some kind of chart-topping music into his ears, seemingly ignorant to the world.

Everything that had shown the glimpse of Jaejoong he'd gotten from the last couple hours had disappeared. He was back to normal Jaejoong.

Yunho had been burnt.
