Chapter Six - Tents
"Have you not finished that yet?"
"No! I’ve no idea how I’m supposed to put it together! You haven’t finished your bit either!"
"Well I’m sorry! I thought that maybe you looked like the kind of person who’d do stuff like this! Or that you might be a little bit clever enough to figure out you could read the instructions and find out how to build it!"
"Do I seriously look like a camper?"
"Well you look pretty camp to me."
Yunho scoffed and picked up the recently slung instructions, ‘Yeah, I’m the camp one.’ he thought as he eyed the leather jacket embedded with small rhinestones and the skinny jeans (that were quite obviously from the woman’s section) that Jaejoong was currently wearing, ‘Yep, very appropriate for camping.’
Junsu and Changmin exchanged equally amused glances before deciding that they’d probably spent long enough watching the amusing scenario in front of them and should go and retrieve their sleeping bags for the night from Miss Lee. They were partly tempted to go and show the other two how it was done, especially as they were the only ones left to even put anything together, but the due concluded that it was probably more amusing if they just sat and watched from their own perfectly put together tent.
‘It wasn’t that hard to do, even Yoochun-ssi and Seung-Hyun-ssi were able to just deal with their differences and put it up.’ Changmin thought, as he thanked Miss Lee for giving him a thin sleeping bag for the night, ‘However, there isn’t any obvious sexual tension between Yoochun-ssi and Seung-Hyun-ssi.’ and he snickered to himself at this thought.
"We just need to get it up, okay?! Put the pole in the hole of that one and it’ll have to do!" Jaejoong exclaimed, tired of all the bickering and spiteful comments they had been throwing at one another - he just wanted to get inside a tent and lie down. And Yunho’s sudden outburst of laughter wasn’t helping his oncoming migraine.
"What are you laughing at?!"
"Oh… it’s nothing…" Yunho said, trying to reel his composure back in, "You just… the things you say sometimes…"
Jaejoong’s eyes widened as he recalled his exact words, "You’re a sick boy, Jung Yunho-ssi! You always laugh at inappropriate times! I just wanna lay down!" he said, throwing his arms up and scattering the pages of instructions they’d been given. The blonde didn’t understand why they were even here. They’d spent the whole day on their coach - the one that had gained the stench of someone’s vomit as the long trip had been a bad effect on them - travelling to some field in Scotland - a field that wasn’t very impressive, especially as Junsu had hay fever and Jaejoong’s tent was next to his and he knew he’d be up all night sneezing - and here they were, given the ridiculous task to put their tent up and put their things for the night inside them. Mr Choi had claimed the trip was learning to understand English speakers with accents. Why they had to go to Scotland, Jaejoong didn’t know. People from Wales had a good enough accent.
The camping part didn’t exactly produce any kind of excitement within Jaejoong either. Sharing a room with Yunho was one thing, sharing a tent was on a whole new level. They were close, they had no personal bathroom, there was no hot water, he didn’t have a large mirror and Yunho had brought a ridiculous amount of things that they somehow were going to have to fit inside their tent. ‘Just in case.’ , he’d said.
"I’m sorry. Look, go and ask Junsu-yah, Changmin-ah and Yoochun-ah if they’ll come and help us whilst I try to decipher these instructions. Then we’ll get this done faster and you’ll be able to lie down before it gets dark." Yunho suggested, looking at his watch. It was only 3PM, but if they carried on the way they were going, they weren’t going to finish for at least another four hours. And although Jaejoong wondered when Yunho was close enough to Junsu and Changmin to start using dongsaeng honorifics, he went and did as he was told.
Yunho, Yoochun and Changmin finished putting the tent up forty-five minutes later (as Jaejoong and Junsu had gone to find Mr Choi for a glass of water and a tablet for his headache after some hissy fit Jaejoong pulled after Yunho suggested to go and see Miss Lee because she had been so nice to him the day before, instead he just received a, ‘Oh, she’s awesome? Sorry, for a slight second there, I forgot how amazingly great she was. Oops, my mistake. She’s fantastic!’ which reminded him of several dramas he’d watched where a girl was jealous of another in regard to her boyfriend, but that flicker of hope was snuffed out immediately, just to prevent any likely disappointment), and Yunho ended up retrieving his and Jaejoong’s sleeping bags from said teacher and by the time the blonde had returned, the tent was finished, their beds were made and both of their sets of belongings were inside and on their own sides of the tent. Well, and he’d found Yunho dead to the world on one of the sleeping bags, curled up in a ball and snoring to himself. Jaejoong laughed a little, it wasn’t even evening yet and already he was sleeping.
Jaejoong left just as soon as he’d arrived, choosing to sit in Junsu and Changmin’s tent instead, leaving Yunho to peace and quiet because not only would the blonde not have anything to do or anyone to talk to, he was sure that he’d end up doing something stupid that woke the other up. And he deserved the nap he was having seen as he’d just spent the whole afternoon putting up the tent that he’d admitted to having no idea how to build. And Jaejoong felt some kind of emotion he’d never experience towards the other male before, which Changmin identified afterwards as care and appreciation. The lanky boy was hit almost instantly.
***
"Ooh, biscuits!"
"You will get fat one day, Shim Changmin! And when that day comes, I shall be laughing! Do you hear me?!" Jaejoong called after the named male who was now up to his ears in Scottish shortbread and hard candies. Maybe the village wasn’t as bad as the younger thought it’d be, especially as he’d thought it was going to be awful. The King of Complaints had been whining all day about having to leave the tent, moving and going to a village that’d be full of ‘old farts’ and that nothing there would hold his interest. Mind you, he had complained about only just getting settled in London and already, four days later, they were off again. Yes, Changmin disliked change.
Still, Junsu had gestured towards Jessica’s gushing expression at the idea of visiting the little Scottish shops, spazzing with her girly friends, which caused Changmin to become just that little bit more interested in visiting said village.
So when Changmin wandered off to attempt to seduce her with his vast knowledge of baked goods, Jaejoong was slightly insulted that he’d been left alone. Junsu and Yoochun had wandered off into some other shop that looked ‘couplesy’ and the only other person he’d been hanging around with (with the exception of Jessica and Yuri, who were being spoken to by Changmin) was Yunho. And even he had abandoned him to follow Miss Lee around, an expression of panic and slight boredom crossing his face as he was being pulled by the wrist towards the key rings. Jaejoong assumed that she’d suddenly turned into some really, really weird stalker to which he wore a slight smirk, believing that Yunho deserved it for being so obliviously nice to her beforehand. Wait. No. He deserved it for being Jaejoong’s stalker. Of course.
Deciding that the time in the village should be spent in some kind of useful way, Jaejoong just focused on his own shopping. He’d promised his family he’d buy them presents and although his parents had insisted that he didn’t and just spent his money on himself to have fun, he didn’t care. He always bought for his family before himself.
He scoured the shelves, admiring all the little novelty gifts; shaking the snow globes, trying to figure out what the book titles said, stroking the necklaces and bracelets in adoration and repeatedly clicking the pens of many colours and sizes. Picking up different things and debating which of his sisters would prefer what and who would complain if they didn’t receive something or wanted what the other had, Jaejoong decided that his siblings were the most difficult people to buy for and he seriously pitied their future husbands.
His parents were easy. He knew his father was fond of fudge, especially when one of his sisters brought fudge back from when she went to France and he spent weeks debating how quickly he should eat it. If he ate it too quickly, he wouldn't have any more to cherish or savour - but it was tempting. Jaejoong wanted to see a smile appear on his father's face when he'd produce the pack of fudge and he hoped he'd recieve a bone crushing hug from the man he loved dearly.
His mother would like some kind of ornament. The amount of knick-knacks they had loitering their home was ridiculous. It was his mother's dream to collect an ornament from every country in the world, and from what Jaejoong could remember, she didn't have one from Scotland yet.
"I think you should buy that one."
Jumping out of his skin, Jaejoong span around and frowned at the owner of the voice, "And what makes you an expert on gifts for my mother?"
Yunho picked up a snow globe and inspected the little people nestled inside the glass, "Ah, I didn't know you were buying for your Mum. I picked the faerie because I thought it'd match you because you're manipulating and you're pretty. But to be honest, you're mother is probably as pretty as you are." he said with a gentle smile as he shook the globe to watch the snow whirl around the miniscule town.
When did this guy start getting confidence?! Only yesterday was he getting all flustered at the way I was speaking to him... Never has he called me pretty to my face. Please don't let that mean he's going to rape me again...
"Do you mind not perving on my Mum?" Jaejoong asked, picking up a small statue of a Scottie dog, "Anyway, where's your wonderful Miss Lee gone? You looked content with following her around."
Yunho snorted, "She's weirder than I thought. For some reason, she insisted on buying me aspirin despite the fact I don't feel ill anymore." he placed the snow globe back onto the shelf and turned to face the flaxen haired male, "And unless I'd stopped her, she would've bought me a six pack of water to quench my thirst."
"Yeah... so horrible having someone caring for you. So, when's your first date? Or does this count as one?" Jaejoong asked, deciding that the Scottie dog would be a perfect gift for his mother.
"Stop being stupid." Yunho said, following Jaejoong to find the cashier, "So, does your Mum like dogs?"
Jaejoong sped up, trying to shake off Yunho's stalkerish abilities, "Is it really any of your business?"
"I just wanna get to know my room mate a little better." Yunho smiled, resting against one of the shelves as Jaejoong looked around to find the cashier.
"Just because I'm your room mate doesn't mean you need to know about me." Jaejoong pointed out, trying to decipher what a sign said.
"Okay, but humour me. Why don't we ask one question each about each other, then we can feel like we know each other a bit more?"
Jaejoong raised an eyebrow. Was this guy serious? Usually, he'd flat out refuse, but Jaejoong thought that if he answered the stupid question, then maybe Yunho would leave him alone.
"Fine. I'll go first." he wandered over to the desk as he gathered that that would be where he paid for his things, "Why do you insist on wanting to know things about me?"
Jaejoong joined the end of the queue, just behind a couple of Scottish people who seemed rather undecided about how they felt towards the rush of Korean students, overtaking their small shop. Jaejoong decided that they were usual customers of the place, possibly living near and making this their local shop. Yunho followed closely behind, standing beside the blonde as he juggled the gifts in his arms.
"Because I find you intriguing," he answered, catching a small cuddly toy keyring as Jaejoong lost his grip on it, "More so that anyone else I've ever met. If I'm honest, it's your fault I like you. If you weren't so likeable then you wouldn't have me here, trying to get to know you. However, if you'd open up to me a little more, I'd back off and stop pressuring you."
Jaejoong scoffed. It wasn't like Yunho was the biggest pressure threat in his life. Until five minutes ago, Jaejoong considered Yunho to be a sad little puppy, kicked from all Jaejoong's own ignorance. He wasn't entirely sure when Yunho had gained momentum to be so arrogant, but hey ho, maybe that meant he was just one tiny push from giving up.
"My question now," Yunho said with an enormous grin, "Why do you have so many presents?"
"Is that not a waste of a question?" Jaejoong asked, frowning as he took a step closer to the cashier.
"Hey, you've had your question. Don't ask more questions. Answer mine." He smirked.
There was an uneasy feeling in Jaejoong's stomach, wondering whether Yunho was up to something else. No one asked stupid questions like that. Not when they supposedly 'liked' you.
"Look, it's just a question, we've had this conversation. I want to know more about you. I just want to feel like I know you better. In the manner of friends." Yunho comforted, fiddling with the penguin keyring he'd caught for Jaejoong.
The blonde almost felt sorry for Yunho, watching as he gazed at the floor and his cheeks turned a little red at Jaejoong's mistrust in him. He smiled. This was the Yunho that made Jaejoong happy. The one who succumbed to his bitchy commands. But that was just based on power, the new Yunho had intrigued Jaejoong probably a little more than the old one, only because he was spontaneous. Being happy and being interested were two different things.
"They're all for my family. I have eight noonas and the usual pair of parents." Jaejoong finally answered, taking another step forwards as the Scottish couple arrived at the desk and muttering something about the place being busy and loud.
"Eight noonas?! Seriously?
Jaejoong nodded, "Mhmm, noonas, meaning, older than me."
"Wow. So you're the youngest and the only boy? I imagine you were adored..." Yunho said, trailing off to mutter under his breath something that Jaejoong didn't quite catch that sounded a little like, 'I guess that's why you're so pretty.' but he decided that wasn't what he'd said.
"But now I've told you that, don't think that you can come around my house and start hitting on them. It doesn't work like that buddy. Besides, five of them have boyfriends and one has a husband." Jaejoong defended. His sisters had been drooled over once before by Changmin, obviously. Junsu was as gay as daffodil so he was nothing to worry about, but Changmin had spent three nights at his house, focusing only on where and when his sisters were about. It reached a point where Changmin was doing whatever he wanted whilst Jaejoong ate, slept, went out and did his daily routine as if Min wasn't even there. Eventually, Jaejoong managed to kick Changmin out of the house and then Jessica joined their class so his attention was diverted. However, there was always a haunting feeling inside Jaejoong that made him think if Jessica rejected Min one too many times, he'd be right back sat on his sofa, pretending to watch TV with the youngest single older sister Jaejoong had. He shuddered.
But Yunho snorted.
"I don't think that'll be an issue, Jaejoong-ssi."
"So, does that mean you're done with the question? You know all you need to know." Jaejoong asked, placing the nine things he was purchasing on the counter, indicating that Yunho should put the penguin keyring on the counter too, as Jaejoong reached inside his bag for his purse.
"Well, no. Not really. I'd like to know more. It's just whether you'll tell me." Yunho said, taking pound notes out of his wallet before Jaejoong even had a chance to retrieve his purse.
Looking up, Jaejoong gaped at what he'd done, "Well you're not going to get to know me if you do things like that! I don't need your flashy cash, Jung." he said, thrusting the amount Yunho had paid into his hand before thanking the man behind the counter and taking his bag and reciept.
"I only wanted to help you. It'd be like a gift from me to your family." Yunho offered, rushing to keep in step with the hot headed blonde.
Jaejoong span around suddenly and stood face to face with his unwelcomed companion, "Thanks but no thanks. I don't need your help. They're my gifts to my family. You don't even know them, Yunho-ssi."
"But that's my point. I want to know them, Jaejoong-ssi." Yunho pleaded.
Jaejoong shook his head in confusion, "And you think buying my gifts will gain yourself access to their lives? Well I'm crushing that dream before it even continues."
The blonde turned back around and continued his trek down the path to the shop Yoochun and Junsu had gone in, "Earn my trust and then maybe you can earn theirs!" was the comment he threw over his shoulder as he left.
Yunho watched Jaejoong's body vanish into another store and he slapped himself upside the head. How close had he been to getting more information from him? He sighed.
Yunho debated on giving up trying to impress Jaejoong. Either he was going to keep getting harshly rejected or at some point, he'd say the right thing and Jaejoong would fall deep into his heart and he'd get what he wanted. For some reason, the former seemed the more likely, especially as that seemed to be what was happening. All he wanted was to be the blonde's friend, if anything, and even that wasn't going to plan.
Then again, he had said, 'Earn my trust and then maybe you can earn theirs.' Had that been a small offer? A small opening up of Jaejoong's cold outer shell? Yunho didn't know, but he was going to take it up at all costs. He was not a pervert, nor a rapist and he didn't want to be known as one. He was a genuinely nice guy and he was going to make Jaejoong like him.

[Yunho's POV]
I didn't speak to Jaejoong all throughout dinner. He sat on the complete other side of the campfire to me, despite the protests of Junsu and Changmin, who refused to move their asses and go and sit with him. They claimed it was warmer over our side of the fire. Instead, like an equally prissy bitch, he perched on the end of the tree trunk with only his leather jacket for warmth. He really has no priorites. The urge to offer him a blanket, or even better, a hug, was almost too tempting, but I knew that I'd just get shot down instead. Acting now would be too quickly and I'd have no chance if I destroyed the bit inside of the door he'd left open for me.
Yoochun told me that Jaejoong had met up with him and Junsu in the store I watched him disappear into, muttering under his breath about some stupid guy who Yoochun guessed had been me. I thanked Chun for being the dear friend he always was to which he smiled greasily. So I flicked a piece of chicken at his huge face. Yes, the chicken that Miss Lee had attempted to cook. I don't really think she's very skilled in the culinary area as her food was hardly edible, which brought everyone's moods down even more. Her and Mr Choi had tried raising our enthusiasm about being in the 'fresh Scottish night time air' by whipping out a guitar and trying to get us to sing along to some stupid songs as if we were fucking Boy Scouts or whatever. None of us agreed and by the time we decided that dinner was pretty much over and the campfire was unlikely to keep us warm for much longer, we all retreated to our tents. And it was only 10PM.
I decided to hold back a little. We had nowhere else to change and I think that not only would Jaejoong not appreciate me barging into the tent whilst he was trying to change, he'd also prefer it if he wasn't hit by a sudden chill, especially if he was half naked. Half... nak... wait, no. Stop it. I'm not a pervert.
I sat in Yoochun and Seunghyun's tent for a bit. They seem to be accepting the fact they can't be at each other's throats every five minutes and that made me happy. There was a chance that neither of them would commit murder before this trip was over. I couldn't say the same about Jaejoong. I felt like I was going to be hung, drawn and quartered by the end of this trip, just for liking him. Hardly fair, but still.
Speaking of the blonde, he came over to Yoochun's tent at about quarter to eleven, shaking the material like a crazy person. We all jumped, our immediate reaction thinking it was either a bear, getting ready to eat us all... or it was a murderer, going to kill us. Seunghyun narrowed his eyes and Chun raised an eyebrow when we heard his whiny voice calling my name. I snapped at him to stop shaking the damn thing as I tried to get out of it, apologising to Yoochun and Seunghyun as they forgave me, getting ready to get into their own sleeping bags.
He stood there staring at me as I fought with the exit of the tent, the zip getting caught about six times before I managed to escape. When I finally stood with some kind of composure, he just carried on staring at me ask if I was the one who just scared the life out of three teenage boys. Ignoring the fact I'd just made a fool of myself, I continued on, "What did you want?" I asked him. Yeah, way to catch a crush, Yunho!
"I was just wondering when you were coming in the tent. I wanted to go to sleep and didn't want you rustling around and trying to get ready while I was sleeping." He hissed, yanking my arm over to our tent, "You're here now. Come on, I need out of this cold."
I wasn't surprised he was cold, he was only wearing a vest and some bottoms. I gathered he'd just got impatient and wandered out of the tent, forgetting to get dressed properly. I expected that of him and for a moment I lingered on the theory that Jaejoong had ADHD, but it passed as soon as I was pushed into the thin fabric casing of our temporary 'room'. He zipped up both the outer and inner parts at lightening speed as I watched, before diving into his sleeping bag almost as quickly.
I looked away, digging my own clothes from my overnight bag as I supposed he probably wanted some privacy to finish changing himself. I myself got into some thick jogging bottoms and an equally thick, large longsleeved shirt, finishing with an overhead hoodie. It was seriously cold in the tent and I was clever enough to pack for such weather. Jaejoong didn't seem to complain as a I was changing, actually, he kept pretty silent, but when I wriggled down into my sleeping bag myself and turned around not to intimidate him with the close range, he whined again.
"It's so freezing in here!"
I turned back around to see him running his hand up and down his arms to cause heat from the friction. He pouted as he failed and I chuckled.
"It's not funny!" He whimpered, "How did you know it'd be so cold?"
"Scotland is northerly. It's colder at night and we're in a tent... Oh, and I'm clever." I smiled, hopefully warmly instead of creepily.
He tsked, "I bet Miss Lee told you to wrap up warm. Lovebirds look out for one another, don't they?"
I sighed. Where the hell had he gotten that shit from? Miss Lee wasn't exactly what I'd call the ideal girlfriend. Not only is she my teacher, but she also has this really, really annoying habit of being completely obsessed with me... So, actually, more importantly, why was Jaejoong going on about it all the time?
"Jaejoong-ssi, I'm not dating Miss Lee. You for certain should know I'm not that way inclined." I started, pulling my hoodie over my head, "Why? Is somebody jealous?"
"Pur-lease," Jaejoong laughed, "Why would I be jealous of someone like her?!" Aha!
I sniggered, "Actually, I was referring to her being with me. But y'know, if you're that confident..."
"Shut up."
"Here." I offered him my hoodie, his goosebumps making me feel really bad.
Jaejoong frowned, "What?" Stubborn little bitch. Why do I waste my time on him? Really?
"I'm giving you my hoodie to wear whilst you sleep. To keep you warm." I said, "Y'know, because I'm nice and you're stupid."
"Yeah, but that'd make you cold." Jaejoong argued, digging himself deeper into his thin sleeping bag and curling into a ball. Just take it!
"Nah, I've got long sleeves. I'm warm." I argued back.
"But, it's yours." Take the fucking hoodie.
"Stop arguing with me!"
"But I don't..." Goddamnit!
"Look Jaejoong-ssi, I'm not offering it to you because I wanna get into your pants - it's because you're freezing you're ass off and I'm trying to do something nice. Anyway, if it was for that reason, don't you think it'd be a little counter-productive? Putting clothes on you?"
He blushed then and took the hoodie, pouting at my put down and his failure to come up with an argument. I grinned in victory and wriggled back down into my sleeping bag, turning away from him and hoping to finally get some sleep. If I didn't fall asleep first, I knew I'd end up watching his face all night and that would be a distraction. And in the morning I'd be walking around falling asleep on Yoochun's shoulder and I'm really not sure he'd be too keen on that...
Just... focus... on... sleep...
*
When I awoke in the morning, it was even colder than it was the night before. I sat up and rubbed my arms, trying to generate a little bit of heat. Even with my long sleeves it was cold, which made me decide that I was an extremely kind person to give Jaejoong my hoodie. Jaejoong, the guy that had been a bitch to me. And I had offered him my warmth. He better feel pretty damn special.
I turned my head to look at him then and ended up being blown away.
His hand was scrunched up in part of my sleeping bag as he was curled up in a ball, attatched to my temporary bed. His messy blonde hair was splayed across his pale face as his mouth was open and I could hear him breathing. My hoodie was huge on him and was exposing a slight part of his collar bone as his vest failed to cover it and I think I almost drooled. Seeing him in my hoodie was doing strange things to the inside of my trousers. I guessed his body had been drawn to my unconciously because I was radiating heat compared to the rest of the tent, the proof that he was warming up a little was the pink flushing his flawless cheeks.
It was there and then that all the disappointment I had about his arrogance and rudeness he was feeding me drained from my body, and I was left with this gorgeous boy that had stolen my heart. Damn him. I think he is probably the most beautiful creature God had blessed the Earth with.
And just a little while after that, I guessed that it was all the teasing and all the ignorance that made me love him even more. It completed his whole being. Because he was being him. It made him perfect.
And that was just how I liked him.

Oooh. it's depeening! :D I really dislike Jae in this and I heart Yunho. Damn me for disliking my own characters! Especially as I love Jaeeeeeeee. :(
I really hope you like it! Yay for updates! Sorry I take too long. :/
