I went to see "Black Book" on Wednesday at the County Theatre. It was surprising in several ways. Firstly it was pretty graphic in places. I don't think the graphic violence served the story as well as did that in "Pan's Labyrinth", but most of it was well-used. Secondly, there was more nudity in this film than I've ever seen in a film (short of the horrible porno I was once shown). Such nonchalant co-ed, non-sexual nudity I've not seen before. Kinda weird. The film was, in the end, very depressing to me. It deals with the life of a Jewish woman during WWII. I left the theatre feeling down and somewhat drained. I can't say I thought it was a bad film, but, like the Bio of a Space Tyrant novel I read in high school, it was definitely depressing. I'm getting depressed just thinking about it now. Then I went and dropped $5.50 on the final installment of Dreadnoks: Declassified because I already have the other two and I figured I'd rather have a complete collection, even if I was only peripherally interested. Then I got depressed because I'd spent almost six dollars on a comic book. A comic book, mind you, in which the editors can't even catch the glaring misspellings and typos. Gah. I got over it eventually, once I'd got home and had some dinner.
