Excellent lesson! My guess is that the people who need to read it either won't, or they will and won't recognize themselves. I'm glad I rarely write dialogue. *winks*

I recently followed a fiction recommendation over here and I'm really enjoying reading your writing.

Whoa. I'm being rec'd? How totally awesome.

In addition, I have to say that as an English teacher who is completely frustrated with kids today, I very much appreciate your rant. :-)

God bless you. Someone has to do it! I used to be a teacher. (Emphasis on the used to part.) What level are you at? Middle? High school?

As far as the teaching, I currently teach seventh and eighth grade. Some days I love it, and some days I just want an office job. But if you used to teach, I'm sure you understand! What did you teach?

Yes, I do. I got out of it and never looked back. The funny thing is that it was more about the politics and fear for my own safety than anything else.

I wrote a long rant about it if you're interested.

What did you teach?

I taught music at the middle school level. Now, I'm trying to find work in another field as far removed from education as possible.

I don't keep a journal, but am an enthusiastic QAF fic reader, and have, in the past couple of months, followed link after link to some of the most terrific fic writers' sites ( ... )

It's nearly finished, but I've hit a serious case of writer's block that I'm trying to work through. When it's finished, I'm going to edit the hell out of if and then post it.

May I add a couple of my own pet peeves that I see repeatedly in fiction? Loose/loosing used sooooo often instead of lose/losing, and drug instead of dragged.

Desert vs. dessert
Waist vs. Waste
Too, Two, and To
People are always hanged, pictures are hung

Of course, the first two in that list totally change the image in your head which, IMO, makes them worse.

I mean, WTF, isn't that what an editor is supposed to do? Catch that shit?A lot of people don't work with a safety net (a good editor/beta ( ... )
