Amazon.com won the seventh copy of the Beedle's Bard that was auctioned off at Sotherby's. The purchase price was £1,950,000. ($3,984,610 US)
They're planning on doing a library tour with the book, but are not going to make copies of the book as they don't own the copyright. To get a sneak peak at the book and to send questions you have about it,
go here. IMO, it's kind of Scroogish of JKR to do this. If she wanted to make money for charities so badly, she could have made her fancy copies of the book and then had a hardback book version printed for everyone else with all of her proceeds going to charity.
And, on a totally unrelated note, Dad decided to add some Jack Sparrowish drama to the house.
Earlier, I was in my room on my computer, Mom was in the den on her computer, and Dad was looking for rum to soak the fruitcake in. (This is after they've eaten off it for a couple of day, mind.)
*sounds of Dad banging around in pantry*
He yells down the hall to Mom: "Hey, Babe, where's the Rum?"
*insert me trying not to laugh @ image of Dad as Captain Jack Sparrow*
Mom: We don't have any.
Dad: Then how did Syd make that cake?
Mom: What cake?
Dad: You know...the one. The cake. The cake.
Me: I used rum extract!
What Dad hears: I used rum.
Dad: Yeah! Well where's it at? (louder)
*rolls eyes*
Mom (getting up from chair and going into the kitchen): There is no rum; she used extract.
*sounds of Mom fishing it out of the cabinet to show him*
Dad: Then what the hell am I supposed to soak these in?
Mom: Brandy or whiskey
Dad: But there's no rum?
Mom (in exasperated tone): Do you want me to go to the store and buy you some?
Dad: (pouting) Nooooo. I'll use the brandy.
