The H factor

Sep 13, 2007 18:37

Apparently Hurricane Humberto decided it had a complex about its silent 'h' and thought soaking the crap out of Texas and Louisiana was a capital idea.

Aside from a lot of rain, wind, and the occasional power brown-out, it wasn't that bad here.

The backyard flooded rather spectacularly...that's about it.

Hurricanes scare the shit out of me so I refused to go to bed until the worst of it had passed.

I spent the night babysitting the dogs and writing ficlets. Nearly ten. One or two of them I'll have to think seriously about before posting else I might be TOSsed.

The Movie Meme

1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times.

The first three Harry Potter flicks, all three LOTR movies, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Finding Nemo, Tomb Raider, and Star Wars IV-VI

2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in the theatre.

None because it makes no sense to me to spend another $10 bucks when the movie will be out in a couple of months anyway.

3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to see a movie.
Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett because both have a track record of being consistent in their craft and taking film rolls that are both evocative and provocative.

4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to see a movie.
Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. The former because he's such an asshole in real life and isn't a very good actor to begin with. Leonardo DiCaprio because he's not very good but people seem to be too blinded by thinking he's cute. (Which, IMO, he's not.)

5. Name a movie that you can quote from.

LOTR, Finding Nemo, any Star Wars flick

6. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs.

*is amused* All of the good Disney movies (back when they knew how to draw people who looked like people), Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Chicago, Phantom, Moulin Rouge ...

7. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with.

See above. :D

8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see.

Hitchcock's Psycho because there is a way to make things scary as hell without gore or violence.

LotR: Fellowship because it's a good stand alone and because Peter Jackson is able to use CGI in a story without burying his audience in it.

Beauty and the Beast because it's one of the last great Disney movies with hand-drawn animation, good songs, and attention to details. Not to mention the story is good -- a mixture of drama, angst, romance, and several underlying themes. (Who can forget the 'Kill the Beast' theme?)

Batman Begins because it's what the other Batman movies should have been.

9. Name a movie that you own.

Oh. Good. Lord.

If it's Disney and before the Lion King, if it's a musical that doesn't blow, if it's got vampires, beasties, or superheros, if the title states with Star, I probably own it.

10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.

Eminem in 8 Mile, Ice-T on Law and Order, J-Lo, Queen Latifah in Chicago.

11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?

Yes. About 20 years ago.

12. Ever made out while watching a movie? In the movie theater?

No not in a movie theater.

13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it.

Rear Window

14. Ever walked out of a movie?

In a movie theater? No. I don't typically go to them, and, if I do, I make sure it's something I want to see.

At home, I just turn the thing off.

15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theatre.

Star Wars

16. Popcorn?

No because it gets stuck in your teeth and is a pain in the ass to clean out.

17. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?

Never. Netflix is cheaper, easier to use, and I can avoid idiots and their children.

18. What's the last movie you saw in the theatre?

Star Wars: Episode I

19. What's your favorite/preferred genre of movie?

Drama

20. What's the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Gremlins. I was four.

21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?

The Godfather. It was a waste of time. I kept waiting for it to be good because everyone had said it was teh shit, but, IMO, it just is shit.

And that second Pirates of the Caribbean movie blew, too.

22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?

Um...

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I wouldn't call it weird so much as O_o because seeing Elrond in drag threw me a little.

Good movie though.

23. What is the scariest movie you've seen?

Hitchcock's Psycho.

24. What is the funniest movie you've seen?

Jumpin' Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg.
