Chapter 36 - Wives and children of Esaü in Canaan
Yay! A genealogy chapter!
Esaü has three wives and five sons. He goes to live somewhere that's not where his brother lives, because they're too rich to live in the same place.
Then you have another overview of Esaü's sons (there's more of them this time) and other genealogical considerations.
Chapter 37 - Joseph and his brothers
Jacob stayed in Canaan with his family. Joseph is his favorite son. He gets two dreams that seem to say that he'll dominate his brothers, as well as his father and mother, so his brothers are jealous.
Joseph's brothers are taking care of the cattle, and Jacob sends Joseph to meet them and bring him news. When Joseph's brothers see him come, they plot to kill him but one of them doesn't want blood to be shed (and plans to rescue him) so they dump him naked into a cistern.
Then you get two versions of the same story: in one, the brothers see merchants coming and sell Joseph to them - in another, the merchants find Joseph in his cistern. Either way, he ends up sold and on his way to Egypt.
The brothers take Joseph's tunic, dump it in the blood of a goat and pretend to their father that Joseph was attacked by a beast. Jacob grives his son and refuses to be comforted.
This is yet another version of Abel and Caïn, or Jacob and Esaü's story. Jealousy between brothers leading them to dire actions.
