Semester Close, A New Year Begins
Yes, I'm still alive. I figured it would probably be best if I didn't post during the last few weeks of the semester, and it seemed to work out okay. I'm at home now; just unpacked everything, set up my room the way I want it, and have taken full advantage of the ability to download music on my own iMac. So glad I brought my computer home over break.
Well, finals went well and grades are slowly coming in. So far: Topics of Math = A- (which I am so excited about cause the class was a bitch), A in Honors Theology (Strange for me to get an A in theology, but I spent a lot of time in that class on my tests and papers), and a B in Environmental Biology (higher than expected, which means I kicked ass on my final paper and final). Just waiting for Psych of Personality (better get an A), Med Ethics (either a A or A-), and Microbio (I NEED at least a C, I would love a B). WebAdvisor will be my most visited site over these next few days. Give me a 3.5, please!
I'm basically done being VPCO of Alpha Phi. Elections were earlier this month, and they went okay except for a retarted forgetful event of my own. I have great confidence in the new exec board, but it won't be easy for me to just sit back and be a regular member again. I'm too much of a control freak to let that happen. I'm gonna work on putting together my transitioning stuff over break for Tammy. I know she'll do an awesome job, and I'm def willing to help out until I graduate esp during Carnival times. The new exec is : Dene as Pres, Jen S as VPPD, Tammy as VPCO, Kaitlin (my little little!) as VPM, and Amy as VPMR. Oy, I'm gonna miss working with Jen L; she' lucky she gets to stay on for another semester for Rachel - GIRL, I WILL MISS YOU! HAVE A BLAST IN ITALY! They're so lucky too - I just registered all of them for regional conference in PHILLY. How unfair! I'm looking forward to my last rush. It's such a unique time but it lets us bond together as a sorority more and plus seeing half of the PNMs that won't become Phis is quite humorous. Upcoming events include rush, Crush, Carnival, and my last formal ever. It's gonna be a sad 2nd half of the year, I can already tell. I almost cried at the winter formal this year. Formal was okay. It definetly wasn't the same as older ones. I didn't even get drunk! We didn't take a group photo, we didn't do any of my tree shots, the DJ only played 3 slow songs and didn't take any of my requests, and Matt and I were just dead tired. We looked good tho - must get film developed over break. Plus, Brandon and Trisha went together which was a hoot and might develop into something, maybe.
Med school stuff is so iffy right now. Update: rejected from WVU b/c I'm not a resident of WV, waitlisted for Syracause (have to mail them my yearbooks to improve portfolio file), rejected from VCU (forgot to send in my photo and essay by 2 week deadline). All my other schools are in, except for OSU, Case, and NY. I'm finishing up Pitt today. I might start my Duq nursing application over break, just as a backup plan, but I'm really sick of wasting money on this shit. I'll know by Dec 31st if I won the Order of Omega scholarship, and I have to do the Alpha Phi one over break as well.
Things have been wavering with Matt and I, but all is well right now. His birthday went awesome with the X-box and NHL 2005 that I bought him. I got a beautiful baby blue Columbia jacket from him for Christmas. His parents got me a matching hat, glove, scarf set as well. We had a great dinner at his home on Thurs night and watched 1986 Christmas cartoons all night. I'm gonna miss him so much over break, but after a huge fight - he is coming out for new years! I finally won't be alone on new years and we're gonna go into Philly to watch the fireworks. Plus, we can go ice skate here, play with Buddy, and he can meet my friends. I'm sooo excited because I could ever go this many weeks without seeing him. And I just bought his Christmas present today and he will LOVE it.
Everything at home is okay. Except dad had retinal laser surgery to correct a detached retina. He's doing okay now, but still doesn't have vision in the affected eye and his good eye gets tired around 11 am. He can't drive, ride horses, etc so he's going crazy right now, and it doesn't help that his graphic design is 100% vision based. We're all just praying that it gets better within 2 weeks like it is supposed to. Oh and for 90 days he can't go on an air plane because he has a gas behind his eye and it could blow up. Kinda cool.
BUT - tomorrow we are going to Rockafella Center to ice skate, see the lights, and eat dinner. Ca is driving, and Jared her bf is coming with Dad and I. I am so excited. I haven't been downtown there since 8th grade, and to NYC itself since soph year MacWorld. Good shopping, food, and fun. Can't wait! Wish Mom could get off work tho.
Need to finish up shopping for Dad, Ca is done, and Mom's one thing needs to come in the mail. I'm eager for Christmas this year, but who isn't! :) Plus, my mission for the next 4 weeks is to learn to drive/get a licence. Let's see how this goes.
I think that covers about everything. Gotta go do my Pitt essays and charge away my Visa yet again. Expect more updates in the coming days. Oh, and the new schedule is:
