meteorology musings...

twister is on hbo right now, and i can't help but watch. i loved this movie when i was a kid. it should have been some sort of sign that i wanted to study meteorology from then. everytime it comes on, i have to watch it.

anyway, jo (helen hunt for those who don't watch this movie multiple times a year) just said that tornado warnings are only about 3 minutes. then she says something about how they could get it up to 15 minutes (and she was all smiley and yay and shit). just so you all know, the typical warning time now is about 15 to 30 minutes, usually about 30 using doppler radar. it really is amazing that they can issue that kind of warning, but still there is soooooo much about tornadoes that we don't know about.

oh, also, in this movie, the tv meteorologists are played by meteorologists.
