Gwen.

So, I had to rush home and get all of this down so I never forgot it.

Tonight was the Gwen Stefani Concert. We were excited enough at the prospect of Gwen and her adorable Harijuku Girls prancing about to Hollaback Girl. Now, when I bought the tickets, it said that Black Eyed Peas would be opening for her. However, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I checked the website again, and Black Eyed Peas had been taken off the ticket. So I was sad.

So, tonight we walked in, and what was playing but Don't Phunk With My Heart. Apparantly, BEP were there, and seriously rocked my socks. Fergie is amazing, along with the entire group, and they put on a show that was to die for. Also, they really got the audience into it. About 3 songs into their set, they say they want to pay a tribute to their inspirations- Earth Wind and Fire, etc. Then they say James Brown, and then James fucking Brown walks on stage in full 70s regalia- a red velour jumpsuit. At first he looked a little lost/stoned, but then he got into the flow and rocked. Ten he left, and we were happy people. Then, BEP play about 3 more songs, and suddenly the chords to Where is the Love come on. I forgot that they even played that song, and I also forgot how much I love it. At the chorus, Justin Timberlake decides to stop by. He stays for the whole song, then stays for about 3 more songs before he disappears (no one really notices because he did not try to steal the stage at all and he blended right in), and they go into My Hump. Then Let's Get Retarded. Amazing fucking opening act.

So, then Gwen comes on and opens with her Harijuku tribute. Then What Are You Waiting For. She had a great set, and her costumes were amazing, not to mention her backup dancers (some Harijuku boys, one from the Bronx)... plus, when she introduced her Harijuku Girls, she didn't give real names, but "out of Tokyo, this is Baby!" I guess part of the contract is they lose their real names. Her encore was Hollaback Girl of course, and it was great!

So yeah, all in all a phenomenal experiance- the company was great, the concert was wonderful, and I bought a really cute t-shirt on impulse. Awesome. And the whole thing was just what I needed to escape from my life for a while, however brief...
