Your Thoughts On..
drugs. In moderation it's ok. I smoke on occasion, but I would never try any hard drugs. I've had too many friends and family member's screw up their lives because of drug abuse. Also, just because one does drugs it doesn't mean they're a bad person, and I think theres a huge misconception with that in our society.
abortion. I'm pro-choice. I think it's entirely up to the woman. Religious beliefs should have no bearing on this. Not everyone is the same religion, and some do not have a religion. Our government needs to stay out of people's personal lives. Just because you wouldn't have an abortion doesn't mean that you should be able to make that choice for every woman in our country. I also think it's sick how people stand outside Planned Parenthood with the dead fetus signs and badger people. First off, partial birth abortion is illegal and that's the type they show on those signs. I'm sure they go on in someplaces, but not in legitimate places such as Planned Parenthood. Also, leave people alone. Protest silently with your signs, but you have no reason to harass the people that go in and out of that business. And this has happened to me before, it's ridiculous.
premarital sex. I don't think 14 year old girls should be running around having sex, but I do believe that if you're in love and comfortable, it's your right and choice. Young kids should think twice, because they have a tendency to get attached when there is nothing there but sex.
eating disorders. They're terrible. I actually have a close friend who is dealing with one right now. It's a thing which you can't just tell the person to stop. No matter what you say, they wont think differently. The best thing you can do is let them know help is there and make the right people aware of the situation. Such as their parents or school administration. Sometimes things get out of hand in such a way that a friend can't do anymore. No matter what, even if they hate you for it, you have to get them help in other ways. Even if this means a hospital. These disorders are as much mental as they are physical.
self harm/self injurers. I did this myself, and just rushed a friend to the ER for it. It's very much the same as an eating disorder in the sense that they will not listen to advice and it's very mental. Though self-harm is more of a coping device for some people. It's how they deal with their reality, or at least thats how I did. These people need help too, any help that's available, it's very serious.
same-sex marriages/relationships. I'm 100% for it. As I said in my abortion answer, "Religious beliefs should have no bearing on this. Not everyone is the same religion, and some do not have a religion. Our government needs to stay out of people's personal lives." People's only 'valid' (and I use this term loosely) reason for being against gay marriage is religion. This is a hypocrisy. If you're religious you're supposed to love everyone, and I know this- I went to Catholic school. All people are made in the likeness of God, including gay people. They are not beneath anyone and should have the same rights as straight people. The excuse "They can be gay, they just can't act on it" is complete bullshit. So, they're supposed to miserable their entire life because people are afraid to accept what's different? I don't think so. What if we told a straight man he couldn't marry the love of his life, a beautiful woman? He'd be enraged. It's no different with a gay couple. Also, civil unions do not grant the same rights as marriage. Unless one is married they cannot visit their lover if they are in the hospital, and that, among other things, is not fair.
what do you think about our president/country/the world today? I don't have a problem with Bush. I would have voted for him. There have been worse presidents, and I believe Kerry would have added to that list. His entire campaign was "I'm not Bush! Vote for me!" Yes, war is terrible, but Afghanistan was needed. Iraq, not so much. I do believe getting Saddam out of power was good, he was like Hitler. But we shouldn't be there anymore, though we can't just pull our troops out, that would be even worse than it is now. However, I do not agree with Bush's moral views.
