I'll own up to this one.
I found a page and a half of untitled and character-less setting I'd written a few years ago and decided to edit/add to it and see if any pairing screamed itself at me or if any ideas for storyline came to mind.
I could make it Johansen/(Nashville Predators teammate here) and Johansen/(Columbus Blue Jackets teammate here). I could make it Seguin/Benn and Seguin/(Bruins teammate here). Or I could make it Kane/Toews and Kane/Sharp. There are a lot of possibilities. Basically, player A wakes up with roommate (player B) and knows something happened last night, but can't remember. Player B, it turns out, spent the night elsewhere. Events of last night took place with Player C.
So the idea is maybe someone had a night with Johansen before he left for Nashville, as a goodbye from Columbus. Or similarly, and as is apparently a thing in fanfic these days, Seguin was mistreated in Boston before being traded to Dallas. Or, Sharp/Kane, which could be even more considering the off-season events involving Kane and that Sharp was traded. I could go the Taylor Hall as Player A route, but then who to make Player B and Player C--maybe player C is jealous of player B? I kinda like that idea, Player C arranges to have Player B out of the room for some reason because he's jealous of A and B? That's something I didn't even consider until now, but it'd work.
Or I could go with a kid getting called up from the AHL to the Show and not even have a Player C, just have it as Player A (the kid) wakes up and Player B (his roommate) did something last night. Fiala for Nashville kinda SCREAMS at me for that, his face and smile are so innocent and it would just be evil to break his innocence the way this fic would. I could also do Fiala and a teammate and another teammate finds out about it. Especially if someone else gets traded on Nashville before the deadline. And I could work the jealousy angle into that if I wanted to go that route, the traded player wanted Fiala's innocence or something. Or Dano, for Chicago, was called up and sent back down because he couldn't handle what happened.
