Pittsburgh Penguins

"PITTSBURGH (AP)-The bad losses are mounting, the confidence is sliding, rumors of a coaching change are swirling."

Ignoring the rest of that. Just... "...rumors of a coaching change...". Yeah... That's what I like to hear. And please, if he's going to go wind up anywhere else, please let it be Dallas or Ottawa. Kthx.

...also regarding Pittsburgh, found a little snippet on my baby:

At some point before July 1, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero is going to have to decide whether he wants to hold onto right winger Petr Sykora and how much he is willing to spend to do it.
"We'll continue to evaluate the team and see what pieces are going to fit in as we move forward under the salary cap," Shero said.

That's a prudent approach, but Sykora will be an unrestricted free agent after this season and, based on his performance to date, should have plenty of teams interested in him if he goes on the open market, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

He will enter the game in Philadelphia at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday tied with Evgeni Malkin for second on the team with 16 goals, one fewer than Sidney Crosby. He is on pace to finish the season with 32, which would be four more than he got in 2007-08.

In the NHL today, that output represents a solid return on the two-year, $5 million investment the Penguins made in the summer of 2007.

"He's been a very good signing for us," Shero said. "We really like him as a person, too. He's developed into a leader here."

Sykora originally was brought in because the Penguins believed his goal-scoring ability would complement Crosby's playmaking talents, but they never developed any chemistry. Sykora did, however, mesh nicely with Malkin, which gives the Penguins at least one line on which a center and winger have jelled.
