Factors found to be associated with attempted suicide are: single marital status (including divorced/widowed); unemployment; social deprivation; history of physical or sexual abuse; alcohol and drug problems; social isolation; eating disorders (females only).
The most frequently used method in suicide attempts is self poisoning (85.4% in 1997).
