the decemberists!
So how awesome were The Decemberists?!?!!! They were AMAZING.
Met H and we took his laundry to the laundromat and ate at the african restaurant nearby. He had been to a better one than this one, which had a couple of things I thought tasted good, but not that much. It was also only buffet. That was your only choice!
So then we waited for the clothes and watched a spanish soap and made up our own dialog to what was happening.
Meanwhile the clock is ticking to the time it was going to start. And you know, I have to be there on time. Everything else I let time kind of slide by. On time to school job? Meh. Be there at opening time for concert? YES. But you know H is pretty go with the flow, and that's starting to rub off on me in a really positive way. It was so nice to walk to the theater, and we got there and situated as the first band was ending. And H was like "huh. I guess things really start on time." Cuz I guess for hiphop shows things just don't start when they say they will. Like allow an extra hour and a half plus.
But we got to stand in an awesome place. It was at the Riv, so it wasn't the main floor, it was that mini stage area behind the main floor but in front of the bar. So eventually the band came out and it was awesome!!! The background was so dramatic and pretty, and it front of it were these lit up paper globes. They were all snappily dressed, and it was just amazing. The music is just so haunting and beautiful, and I really enjoyed just standing there holding hands, listening. They played a couple of songs were everyone was participating in singing along, like the song that has "bombs all fade away" and it was really lovely. And then in the encore we got to scream like we were being eaten by a whale. Excellent!
And the best news! They're coming back!! For a free concert!!! At Millenium Park!!!! July 18th!!!!! With the Chicago Symphony Orchestra!!!!!!
After the show we then went to the Elbo room for the usual Thursday night live art act. And this band that we both really like was playing there. It was a band that we had heard the night that we got together, so we had a great time dancing and listening to them. There were only, hmm like 8 people there, which is said because they're really great and fun. But H and I had a fun time being the only ones dancing.
