Just came back from Riga. I guess I should have warned some people about that visit, but Ihad no idea what we would do there, because it was my mom's birthday event. As it turned out, we did have time to meet people, but very limited and it's prolly a good thing we didn't. We went on one of those ferry things; night on the ferry, a day in Riga, a night on the ferry, home. We had bouffet three times in two days. We bought 1,5 l Black Riga Balsam, so now we don't have to worry about Balsam shortage.
This is my Daily Camwhore from Friday.
When I was six, me and mom saw a double-decker in Riga. I can't really explain how exotic it was. It was like seeing a UFO. And the double-decker took peple to the outskirts of Riga where the
Motor Museum was and I wanted to go there so badly to see all the cars...
...and now, barely 18 years later. I know nothing about cars, but I know things about pretty, and I wanted to go not only because I'd finally get to, but also because I really was interested.
The museum itself could have been better in the aspect of info, there were signs in three languages sometimes, and sometimes just in Latvian, and not about all of the cars. The collection itself was really good, though. And
the building was wonderful, clearly inspired by, um, the bar thingies on the front of cars.. whatever they're called. Unfortunately, I don't talk to cars, I only look at them.
This Horsch here was, according to the info, found in Leningrad in 1970's. They really made it sound like no one had any idea about whom it used to belong to. It's just soooo inconspicuous.
A Brezhnevmobile, this is what newspapers always photograph when they write about the museum because it's crashed.
A Dnepr motorcycle. I liked the logo.
They had a collection straight out of the Cremlin garages, lots of what in Russian is called "членовоз". This here is a
Chaika (note that the Wikipedia photos are from the same museum as mine).
There were some ZIS limousines too, I'm quite in love with this one. There is
another picture (of this one from the same place, naturally) in Wikipedia, and pictures
here, and you can see the stylized red standard for figurehead. I'm loving the detail.
The, um, bumper on this one? Loving it.
This one was used as a taxi by two brothers in 1930's Riga and then they had an argument ond one of the brothers walled it into a gate of a building in Riga where it was found in 1970's. Pretty hardcore.
This is one of those can go on land and water things. That are apparently not called amphibians in English, as they are in the rest of the civilized world.
A supah kawaii Citroën.
Me and cousin in front of the building.
Mixed buildings on the other side of the road.
These are pretty interesting, I don't remember seeing this type before. Wonder what those huge-windowed roof things are. From the looks of it, people live there, but they can't just be ordinary appartments. Might post and ask in
ru_sovarch and ask later.
On the bank of the Daugava river, taken from the ship.
One of the central squares in Riga.
Cute car for HJ.
This one has been around for such a long time. "I love you" still holds.
It can say "for a free Tibet" as much as it wants too, it still looks like "for a Latvian Tibet".
Hip. Hop. Culture is eternal!
If my Latvian doesn't fail me, this says "eat with spoon". Go figure.
We're back now. There's no place like home.
