Al Gore = quite hot. Earth = Serious Business

Yesterday, finally saw An Inconvenient Truth. As expected, not an eye-opener to me, but probably to others. Funny. American, but mostly in a good way. Didn't really like the parts that weren's the slide show, but if others like them, then it's great.

I mean, I have been quite environmentally concerned for the longest time, so pretty much whatever makes people open up their eyes is good in my book.

I have a really hard time understanding why people still view environment issues as "soft" questions for women. How hard could it be to understand that, no. They're not. They won't go away if you ignore them. You can change things. You can change things.

I'm really happy that both Stanjae think alike when it comes to small everyday details. Like, you know, when we are grocery shopping. I ticks me off when people say that they can't afford thinking eco-friendly when they shop. Oh yes you can. If we can, than you can too. You don't need to go all-organic, but you can always stop and think "do I really need this"? Do you really need bleached toilet paper? Can you really really not afford eco milk? Is saving 10 SEK/month really a good excuse?

The cheap things you buy for the lulz, do you need those? Are they worth all the energy spent in the production and transportation, and all the energy that will be spent on disposing of them? All the chemicals that are released in the process?

Is it really sensible to get rid of perfectly wearable clothes and buy new every season because the fashion fads have changed?

Do you need the plastic bag the clerk puts your new book in? If you have a bag with you, why not just put your new buy into it? If you plan to go shopping, why not take an old plastic bag with you?

Do you need to boil a boilerful of water if you just want a cup of tea?

I'm not telling anyone to move out to the woods and never buy Evangelion figurines again. I'm just sayin'... Question. Question question question. Question your actions, your habits, question your needs, question your priorities. You can always do better. You can always change things that you are doing out of habit. You can always switch from your default settings. If the answer to one "do you need" is "yes", then go on. But I find it hard to believe that there is absolutely nothing you can easily sacrifice.
