HP help needed

Aug 07, 2006 12:18

Hello fellow fans! Can someone recommend a good resource where you can find info on the law enforcement system in HPverse? What departments there are, how the bueraucracy works, who answers under whom, etc. I'm writing a fic (YA RLY), but I'm too lazy to do the research by myself.

1. When did you come to HP fandom? How did you find HP fanfiction/fanart? Was HP your first fandom?
In ninth grade (spring 2000) we had to read a novel in English. I had heard about HP books and tought I'd give them a try. Bought the first one. Came back for CoS and PoA the next day. Was done with them before we officially had to begin reading our novels.

I had never been involved in a fandom before (HP is the only fandom where I've been really active), but after some googling on fanpages I started drawing fanart and that autumn I launched Hally Pottel.

2. Where did you hang out at the beginning? LJ? Some forums? What were those places you frequented at first?
There was a place called "The Unofficial Harry Potter Fan Club" I believe. It was a yellow-y and very family-friendly place. And then- WOFS. Have been lurking HP4GU for a while too.

2.5. If the places of then and now are different, what's the main differences, as for you? (common attitides, behaviour patterns, anything else)
Back when I started, you at least had a general idea of what was going on in the fandom. I mean, I knew f every slash page that existed, I don't think you physically can now. I got much less active when I started dating Dev and got into anime/manga in 2001, and when I came back there got to be much more drama, fandom politics, all that kinda thing.

3. What was the first HP fic you read? If you don't remember, name the first author or anything you remember about those very first experiences. Did you like that fic? Did it make you try and find something else or did it make you run away?
Hahahaha Hermione's World was maybe not the very first, but definitely one of the first. I wasn't so familiar with the concept of fanfic in the first place when I read it, so just the fanfic status of it made it interesting.
Cairnsy was responsible for my first slash, I think. Turned me to the Percy side too.

4. What was/were the first pairing(s) you read? And that you liked? Were they the same? Was it one or several at once?
I still like Their Love Is So Canine Sirius/Remus, but Percy/Neville/handcuffs was always a good idea ^_^ Or Snockhart. I still like to believe that I am responsible for the first Snockhart fanart on teh Internets. I've never been a fan of Snape in general or fics with huge age differences, but I gop more or less by "as long as it's hot and well-written".

5. Has it changed with time? How or why?
Uh... I'm not much into fandom now, and I hardly read any fics at all. But, hm... No Snockhart or my favourite flasgship Percy/Neville/handcuffs now. But it's still more or less "I'll do it as long as it's hot".

6. If you write/draw/rec, did you start writing/drawing/reccing at once or did you lurk for some time? What made you start exploring your creative side?
I draw, HP was the first fandom I ever drew proper fanart for. I started drawing more or less immediately and posting it over at Elfwood. Oh, brings back memories...

7. Tell us something amusing or embarassing from your newbie times. Or just something that stands out in your memory from when you were fresh and green, fandom-wise.
I printed out parts of Hermione's World. YA RLY.

8. What was your reaction to first feedback? First negative feedback? First flame? First rec? Did they teach you anything? What?
No particular memories. Feedback is always good, and I've never been flamed.

9. People. Who played a big part in your fandom acclimatisation? Who helped you and how?
Kell, by hosting WOFS? ^^

10. Anything else you want to tell us about your early experiences? Or early experiences in comparison to now?
Uh. The fandom was much smaller. Sometimes I still think that if I hadn't met Dev, I might have become a BNF.

Meme rules
Answer the questions (all of them or only those of them that you want to answer; or add some of your own). Be verbose -- your experiences are interesting! Tag three people whose fandom history you want to hear as told by them. I'm limiting this meme to HP only, but you can change it if you wish. Include rules and questions in your post.
You can take it without being tagged.

Bah. Tagging. Anyone? Alitna?

eng, meme, hp
