why i'm exhausted

Jul 23, 2004 01:02

Okay, so I'm so very tired. And as I said yesterday, the last few days have been crazy. Sunday I left here pretty late to go spend the night at Angel's so I could register for classes on Monday morning, as soon as possible. This means (because of my vampirish sleep schedule) that I didn't sleep Sunday night/Monday morning. I signed up for classes, went to Whole Foods, etc. Then I came home and slept.

So then I was awake all Monday night. And I completely redid my resume Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon I was so very tired, but instead of sleeping, I decided to go fax resumes, and pick up the letter from Carroll CC that I needed to get my insurance back.

Bad decision. I was in stopped (not stop-n-go) traffic just this side of the Bay Bridge for an hour and a half (about 7 miles, 1.5 hours) in a car with no air conditioning and there wasn't a breeze and it was hot and humid and hell. My pulse got up to 155 bpm (that's high). I was about to faint, I swear. Luckily it started to move not long after I really started to feel ill and I got some breeze across the bridge. Yeah, that sucked, but the reason for the traffic sucks more. A cop was killed by a speeding truck just on the west side (Anne Arundel County) of the bridge. He was apparently in his cruiser, writing a traffic ticket, when this Dodge Ram going 70 mph just smacked into him. He was basically killed instantly, but they revived him and flew him by 'copter to Shock Trauma, where he died. The driver (with a suspended license and various speeding tickets and traffic violations, BEFORE THIS) was also flown to Shock Trauma where he was treated and released that same day. The cop was part of the Maryland Transport Authority (police force of 450 cops that patrol state transportation sites like BWI Airport, Bay Bridge, etc). He was cop of the year for 3 years straight, was 29 (joined police force at age 19), married, and lived where I went to high school (Pasadena). The Transport Authority has not had one of their own die in 13 years. It hit them hard. The accident was at 950 am and the roads were not opened again until 230 pm, because of the investigation.

The heat wiped me out. Luckily, I actually took a full (large) bottle of water with me when I left the house, otherwise, I probably would have gotten heat-stroke. I sweated like never before. Luckily, I didn't smell. But (this is probably TMI) the seat of my pants were soaked, it sucked royally. (My knee is also very irritated because I was driving a clutch in stop-n-go traffic and it kept poppin my knee in ways it doesn't like to be popped). So I got nothing done on Tuesday, because I got to the birth center and couldn't fax resumes, as I couldn't walk around in soaked pants downstairs by the fax machine and employees and patients. I chilled (literally) on the couch upstairs. Also, I didn't go get the letter I needed, as by that time, I'd have gotten stuck in rush hour traffic and I was NOT about to do that. My mom and I then went to my sister's friends' Arbonne make-up party (think Mary Kay but all-natural). It was okay, I don't much like my sister's friends, and my mom and I were so tired. But, my mom bought/ordered me some foundation that actually matches my very pale skin! I wonder when it will come in the mail. It matches me perfectly (if you've ever seen me, you'd know I'm very pale, if you've never seen me, you have no idea just how pale I am). Their concealer SUCKED. They only made one color, what's that about? Oh well. My mom and I got home at like 1030 pm. We were wiped out. Stopped for food on the way home, I'd barely eaten all day. I collapsed and went to sleep within a few hours.

On Wednesday, my dad woke me up at like 7 am. We had to drop my mom off at work, then got to Carroll Comm. Coll. to get that letter. Then we went to Fort Meade to get my military ID (and health insurance) back by proving I was a full-time student. The Dept. of Defense ID system was down, nation-freakin-wide. So my dad and I wasted time, went to the PX, went to get pizza, went to the government junk yard (haha, where all of the no-longer-needed military equipment is auctioned off from this entire region) Tons of computers (with the hard drives and RAM removed, duh) and monitors and medical equipment (from Bethesda). Kinda cool. Then the ID system was back up and I got my ID and health insurance (YAY!!!!). The lady was so cool because she put my expected date of graduation (a.k.a. expiration date) by what I told her, even though my letter didn't have it on there. When my sister went to get her ID for this same reason a while ago, it was a big ordeal and all. This lady rocked. Then we went to the Commissary and bought mega cleaning supplies and a few groceries (jell-o). We couldn't get more groceries because they'd die in the car.

So then, mom called and the surgeon's office called and wanted her to come in early. Her surgery was scheduled for 530 pm (she was to go in and get all checked in and ready at 420 pm), But they called her in before 3 pm. Her colleague drove and dropped her off, as we weren't there yet. So then we get there not long after 3 pm and we don't get to see her (pre-op) for a little while. And we go back there, and sat there for HOURS. They didn't take her back until 6 pm!!! She was originally scheduled at 530 pm. WTF?? It was so annoying (and freezing cold). So her surgery took like 20 minutes. But we had to wait an hour before we could see her again, and we left before 8 pm. In the hospital for five hours for a twenty minute minor surgery?? Ridiculous. I guess I should say what it was about - she found a lump in her breast last month and it wasn't there the month before. The surgeon said it had a maybe 3% of being cancerous, due to its characteristics by feel and mammogram. She wanted to do just a biopsy (either fine needle aspiration, or core biopsy), but my mom insisted on surgery to just remove the stupid thing (there is a theory that inserting a needle and doing a biopsy breaks the capsule of the suspected tumor and could spread any possible cancer during the taking out of the needle). So it was removed, she has a rather small incision and biopsy results will be back tomorrow. Only 3% of it being anything worrisome. Two years ago she had a fatty (benign) tumor removed from her leg, so it's probably something similar. Cross your fingers. Hehe, my dad and I were about to pass out in the waiting room, we were both so tired, he'd only gotten three hours of sleep the night before cause he's stupid and stayed online until 4 am playing dominoes on yahoo. So we came home and all passed out asleep. Well, it took me a few hours, but yeah.

And today I've just been exhausted, completely exhausted. I think i just spent a lot of energy in the last four days. Tired. And I haven't sent out any resumes, which just bites.

That was long, but...
