Gender: Male
Canon: Princess Tutu
Timeline: Post-series
Character History:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Tutu#Plothttp://princesstutu.wikia.com/wiki/Mytho Character Personality:
Siegfried's character is largely defined by his position as a prince, at least on the surface. His personality initially seems very closely matched to that of many storybook heroes, with his courage, wit, and unfading resolve. As the protagonist of The Prince and the Raven, he was described as the Prince who Loved Everyone, totally devoted to his people. He was dedicated to the defeat of his greatest enemy, a monstrous Raven, and set all his power in the battle. Ultimately, he was willing to chase the Raven out from their home in the story into reality and seal it with his own heart. He essentially made himself an emotionless doll, but the Raven was stopped, if only for a time. His determination was such that he declared his intent to fragment his heart as many times as needed until he could win against the Raven, which would have condemned himself and others to a cycle of tragedy. It was his duty as a prince, something that was of the utmost value to him, that drove him to such lengths. However, that does not mean he wished to be permanently lost to the battle. It was his desire to regain his heart, in the honest hope of victory, that became Princess Tutu's pendant and gave her the power to restore him in turn.
Siegfried's first inclination upon having his heart returned would have been to follow it, as the saying advises. His real nature immediately came to light, and he took up his role as the brave prince of the story once again. That inherent nobility was indeed natural to him, and he acted that way almost out of reflex. At the same time, that prince was not entirely him anymore. His own expectations were to return to the story and lead his people, but living up to those expectations were another matter. Even he directly acknowledged that his time in reality changed him, as the Prince who Loved Everyone found one person he wanted to love most of all, Rue, and took her back into the story to be his princess. She would be the only person he could share his true self with. Despite lacking a heart for most of the time that he was out of the story, the friends he made in reality are probably more genuine than any he had in his own world. In fact, given the intense, distant respect that fairytale royalty receives, he would miss the chance to truly develop ordinary friendships regardless of his restoration. The brightness of his world would have a noticeable absence of substance for him, and though he may not have minded any of that before, his unawareness of his own identity as a character would have made such a relatively shallow lifestyle the norm for him in the past. Having had a taste of something more, he might wish for a chance to have gotten to know it better. Indeed, though he is driven to behave as a prince, he may on occasion reach for certain frivolities that do not quite match his status.
However, that is not to say that he is uncomfortable with himself. He has an advantage against all these uncertainties in his princely nature, despite how easy it would be for some to miss seeing it. Regardless of how often he might question his actions, he never questions himself. And while he might miss some of the opportunities offered outside the story, such as a wider variety of close friendships, he never regrets his role. He is truly excited to be himself again, whatever hardships he might face in going about it, and he accepts who he is. He never hesitates if he believes something to be right, though worries about whether he met royal responsibilities properly might follow. In this respect, he still keeps something of a decidedly unreal strength about himself, and it is quite deeply rooted in him, never wavering. This is one of the few elements of the prince that is really shown, for though he almost loses hope briefly in the battle with the Raven, it is only to prolong the conflict, and not to utterly admit defeat. Once Duck inspires him to keep fighting, he does so with a flare of intensity unique to those charismatic heroes we look at from afar.
Perhaps the most intense struggle that Siegfried faced outside of the story was his exposure to the Raven's blood. When his heart was in the process of being restored, the piece that held his love was drenched in the blood of the Raven, which slowly spread throughout the rest of his heart, poisoning it and turning him into the dark Raven Prince. He was returned to normal with Rue's declaration of love for him, and one might look at that love as a kind of seal, which patched up those weakness that the Raven's blood ripped into. That blood, however, was not removed from him, and it still flows and waits for a time when it can once again pry into the prince's heart. The acts he carried out while controlled by the blood caused him pain and shamed him, making the threat of it reasserting itself a very dangerous one for him. Without Rue to stand beside him, it is possible that the blood could find a foothold again, but it is something he hopes he has left long behind him.
Another matter that presents Siegfried with a challenge comes down to all the time spent without a heart. There was not exactly a sudden rush of renewed emotions once his heart was completed; after all, its restored state is as it should be, and so it is most natural for him, with names for his feelings and memories of himself. However, the individual heart shards did not fit so cleanly, often calling him painfully up from nothingness. He had no self-awareness at all. The only thing left to him that could drive his own will was his desire to protect others, but he spared no thought for his own well-being and did not even seem able to feel the pain of injuries he received in rescues. He would jump out of buildings to save falling birds, unable to recognize that it would hurt him. At the same time, he was alert enough to see dangers when they were presented, but he did not disregard them them for his own sake. He did not comprehend his own sake, nor did he have any feelings at all. Each fragment of his heart struck him deeply upon its return, giving him enough of a heart to make him realize it was wounded. Given the suddenness of the shift, it is unlikely that he faces no emotional repercussions from the restoration of his heart. But people, himself included, may not be able to notice them at first. One could say that he would be more susceptible to his emotions, rather than the feelings themselves being drastically intensified, he would be more perceptive of even small feelings. Often, the consequences of this are minor, such as snapping at someone when he might not have normally. He is quick to steady himself when he notices, but not by deliberately wrestling with the feeling. Instead, he has come to take them in stride. He does not take any feelings for granted, and carefully takes all of himself into consideration at every possible chance, working to use his heart for his own happiness, and the happiness of people he can fully care about again.
What most people will see in Siegfried is the figure of a noble prince, and those who get to know him well will find him more cheerful than expected, if not more relaxed. He actually tends to be a gentleman in the extreme, never failing to be polite, and he doesn't realize how some people might find that strange. It stems in part from his style as a leader; he often worked to be as welcome a presence in the lives of his people as possible, and he maintains the warmth of a beloved ruler as a matter of course, even if he isn't in charge of the people he happens to be with. It's far from impossible to damage this calmness, particularly not given his unusual emotional situation, but it takes a great deal to significantly upset him for his own sake. He rarely dwells on personal problems, but he will spend as much attention as possible on helping others.
Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
The prince is very skilled with a sword, possessing high levels of balance, coordination, and agility. However, he does have a few more peculiar abilities. Though his sword seems ordinary enough, and does not grant him any particular skills for combat (no energy attacks or other “special moves”), it grants him the ability to remove his own heart and shatter it into gem-like pieces. Further, if the sword is broken, the pieces of the blade become a pair of swans, which he can call back together when he has his entire heart to repair the sword. He does not carry his sword with him, but he can make it appear at will. Additionally, he can use platforms and streams of pink flower petals to fly or jump on, granting him extra maneuverability in combat.
In fact, the style he uses for fighting is very similar to how he dances, another of his particular talents. He is an extremely advanced ballet dancer, capable of the seemingly gravity defying leaps and endless series of pirouettes that amaze audiences in the theatre. At Gold Crown Academy, he was known for near flawless form, and now that he can put his heart into his dancing, his skill will be even more apparent in this regard.
Mentally, he is absolutely unflinching, possessed of a resolve that is incredibly hard to shake granted to him by his status, not merely as a prince, but as the prince who served as the protagonist of a story. He truly believes and seeks to practice ideals that are hard for some to grasp, and will fight for these to the last, regardless of what he must give up to do so. He is, at his deepest essence, a hero, and conducts himself as such.
Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
His weakness, however, lies in that princely nature, as well. He is used to a rather black-and-white existence, the clean cut world of a fairytale, rather than the multifaceted nature of reality. He does not tolerate failure in himself, and will push himself beyond what normal human ability would allow, because he has always been expected to be able to act as “more” than a normal human in order to be a hero. However, despite the expectations that are ingrained in him, he is not always physically capable of doing what he would like to, as he almost literally does not understand the idea of giving up, nor do the idea of “physical limits” mean much to him. Further, his own emotions and motivations might still catch him off guard at times, leaving him confused as to why he has done something or felt something, and even if he doesn't find cause for regret, he might still hesitate over “why” things are what they are. His existence as a human tends to conflict somewhat with his idea of himself as a fairytale prince.
Finally, the Raven's blood, if it was to be triggered (though this requires very specific situations and for his emotional state to be already somehow unsteady) does provide an additional means by which he might be caught of balance. If faced with a situation that is outside of the realms of his power, the voice of the Raven's blood within him might add its taunting to the mix, even if it does not manifest to its fullest extent to make him the Raven Prince.
The Raven Prince could be considered the opposite of the true prince. He is a malevolent force, desperately longing to be loved (while Siegfried was always written as the Prince Who Loved Everyone) and willing to do anything to ensure he receives that love. He will emotionally manipulate people and behave quite cruelly to them, and Siegfried is aware of his own actions as the Raven Prince, which torments him further, as he cannot truly stop himself independently.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign?
He will retain his a majority of his purely physical abilities, such as his skills as a dancer and fighter. His normal physical strength probably roughly matches an Olympic athlete already (ballet being a rather intense form of dance). However, he will not keep his own sword, nor his ability to summon platforms of flower petals.
What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
His own personal mental weaknesses will remain, and the Madness Wavelength will most likely make him more vulnerable to the effects of the Raven's blood. It acted as a destabilizing force within his heart, “throwing it into chaos.” When under its full influence, he has an air of sickness to him, and is not fully in touch with reality, but rather sees everything in a particularly bitter light and suffers from a particularly painful loneliness. The presence of the madness wavelength would make it harder for him to resist these effects.
The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary.Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?
Prince Siegfried was always meant to be a hero, and no matter what might taint his heart, his true self remains devoted to the cause of goodness and metaphorical “light.” Though after the end of the story he would have wished for time to spend with his princess and enjoy their happy ending, he will not reject the task of helping to protect the city once he learns what is being asked of him. He genuinely wishes to help all people, and so he will be willing to sacrifice what he can to ensure the safety of others in the city and battle against the forces of madness. He would be a good choice in the fight because he would gain victory or die trying; as has been stated, he has little concept of ultimately surrendering, never considering it to be an option.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why is your character a Meister and not a Weapon?
The prince may be royalty, but his style of “leadership” has always been unique: as a prince who truly loved his people, he would never merely command or control them, but rather seek to work as closely with them as possible for the sake of bettering their lives. Without his heart, he was left with one ability: to sacrifice himself for the sake of others, a demonstration of how willing he is help other people with all his power. With his heart having been returned to him, he can naturally exercise this impulse with more control, and in essence, it means he is the type who leads from the front, a trustworthy figure who puts everything into ensuring the happiness and safety of all people. As a meister, he would provide a guiding force, a kind of stability of stance and form with his partner, and he would do his best to ensure their shared victory.
What is your character’s Meister Ability? Why?
Soul Dazzle - They are able to create a distraction using their glorious soul wavelength, attracting the enemy's attention to them.
Soul Determination - They are able to take a mortal blow once and withstand it. While it does not heal them, they are given the strength to continue on in battle.
Soul Seal - The meister is able to surround a target ally with the shape of their soul. The shell hardens and becomes impenetrable, disallowing attacks from without and within for as long as the casting meister remains conscious, thus forcing the enemy to deal with the casting meister first.

[The prince stares into what appears to be a mirror, albeit an oddly decorated one. He gently brushes the glass, tracing is fingers along the strange patterns, and-
He utters a small gasp as he unknowingly activates the video function.
The basics of the device have been told to him, of course, but for someone accustomed to a fairly medieval level of technology, the sudden shift in the screen is startling. Still, it is what he wished for, and he recovers himself quickly.
Despite the fact that no one can see him, he stands with his best poise, taking the edges of the communicator into a delicate grip with both hands as he holds it before himself.]
Good day!
[He inclines his head politely for the benefit of whoever might be watching. However, there is little time for niceties, and there will be no hesitation now. He offers only a swift introduction.]
I am Prince Siegfried. I wish to join this battle, by whatever means I can. Though I have yet to find a partner, I would offer my services in helping those who have never handled a sword to use one correctly.
[He is aware, of course, that the blades in this place are quite different from what he is used to, and that what he can teach is far from the most important skill. But if this is what is within his power for now, he will take the course.]
Please, speak with me if you have an interest. I will be securing a place for practice shortly.

Siegfried's delight was quiet as he rode through the forest, but there was a light in his eyes that did not come from the soft sunbeams that threaded through the trees. That warmth spoke of far more than did the reserved smile about his lips, showing a richness that lifted all of his seemingly fragile features.
The delicacy of his appearance belied strength that he did not believe he would have to use anytime soon, not for anything more than supporting Rue as they danced together. His strength had found its most important purpose in holding her aloft. Not that he did not have other obligations as a prince, one of which he was fulfilling at present: he served as the leader of a small troop of young noblemen as they explored the woods for sport. There was nothing to fear in the forest anymore, as the prince had seen to it that the shadow of black feathers no longer fell where it would harm others, and so it was the perfect place for the still-youthful men to find some exercise without the palace walls.
“This way,” he called to the gathering behind him, when they approached a branch in the path. He lightly flicked the reins of his horse, and it trotted forward with its serene rider straightening in his saddle as he peered around with interest. This was a way he had traveled before, of course, a few times since his return to the kingdom, and though it did not yet stand out from any other part of the forest, he thought he recalled something that would be of particular significance to himself and, he hoped dearly, his princess. The other men chattered behind him as he looked on ahead, very gently nudging his horse to a faster pace around a bend. As he did so, he treated them to a glance from over his shoulder. “Do any among you remember a meadow along this path?”
“Yes, your highness! A lovely place, it is...” The man who answered nodded knowingly, and smiled when his prince showed that he favored the response.
“Excellent... If I recall properly, there were many flowers there...” He paused, and his tone carried a definite hint of bashfulness when he spoke again. “...Pretty enough to suit a lady, would you agree...?”
A chorus of affirmations followed this time, mixed in with some chuckles. It was well-known how the young monarch doted on his princess. He replied graciously, however. “I am glad. I will have to stop and fetch some... I will ride ahead, I think, and await you by the meadow.”
With that acknowledged, he set off, and though it was merely a brief errand to choose flowers, determination was steady on his face. Only the best would be suitable for his princess, after all, and there was no reason for this task to be taken lightly. That he would enjoy it only made it more important, and he wished to see the small smile she would offer him in return when he presented her the blooms. He was content in his imaginings of this, for he was about as certain as one could be that they would become reality soon-
It was almost cruel, then, for the world to spin beneath him as it did. The sensation was abrupt, cutting, unforgiving. Perhaps it did not mean to be so merciless, but in the fleeting moments he had for thought, what else was he to think? He cried out, not in pain, but in cold shock, and he fought blackness bitterly. The soft light of the smile that he dreamed would be waiting for him was almost enough, but in the end, he found not even that could shine brightly enough to sustain him.
When he woke in darkness, so great was his haste to rise that he was on his feet with the same breath that had opened his eyes. He cried out once more, but much more coherently this time,“What-? Where am I?”
Again, he tried to act swiftly, calling his sword before he had even finished speaking, much less received an answer- he had seen he was not alone, and so he expected an answer to come shortly, or he would be forced to seek it- But the blade did not come, and it did not take Siegfried long to realize that he was without aid or weapon in a place that was utterly unfamiliar to him.
His only reaction to this realization, though, was to straighten gracefully, allowing all of his regal pride to flare around him. He had faced worse challenges.
