Character Info in the Wiki Series Info in the Wiki Personality: Impulsive is definitely one word to describe Shinn Asuka. Being one to rush headfirst to any situation, its no wonder that this guy is able to get into a lot of troubles just by following the first thing that comes inside his mind. While he starts to grow out of this style of thinking much later on after his series ended, he still shows signs of this when under extreme stress or dangerous situations that involves his friends and/or teammates. This trait also means that Shinn might not really get along well with authoritative figures that prefers their men being obedient to them, as shown when he disobeyed some direct orders from his superiors in several sorties, preferring to engage the enemy he is assigned to just disable to the death.
Around those he considers friends, Shinn is social with them, as shown by his interactions with his fellow group of soldiers, though while sociable, Shinn is not afraid to speak his mind aloud and will in fact do so without any provocation whatsoever. Do note that he will be very rude and brash to those he doesn’t really like, and God forbid that you’re the type to go back on your words, because he is a person who holds promises in the highest regard, and doesn’t take it well when someone breaks those, one of the examples of this is his old hatred for Orb due to them being a neutral country and yet doing things that just got them attacked, and how his relationship with Athrun had a rocky start due to him believing that Athrun was a traitor to ZAFT due to Athrun’s past involvements with the ZAFT.
Beneath his social shell and impulsive nature, lies someone who has been broken by wars, and would do anything he can just to end it. This is very apparent in the series, where this very drive in addition to his deteriorating mental health from the events he suffered through in the war led him to be easily manipulated by Durandal and Rey to conform to their Destiny Plan, which is aimed to end wars throughout the world via determining everyone's roles from birth. After the series, Shinn is shown that he is now working with Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala in these very same efforts after realizing the error of his ways with Durandal.
Before the war ended, Shinn used to carry with him his Mayu's cellphone and often called it just to listen to her voice speaking through the answering machine, signifying his reluctance to let go of his past. While he lets go of this attitude by the end, he still carries her cellphone with him at times just so he will remember his newfound promise to enforce peace in Earth. Not only that, he tends to form connections with those that reminds him of his little sisters, due to his nature as a big brother never dissipating even after Mayu's death. His relation ship with the then-alive Stellar Louisser is a testament to this.
In battle, Shinn tends to stick with being a bushwhacker, that is to say, employing different tactics in other to catch the opponent off-guard and using the opening to attack the enemy from the blind-spot. Also in battle, Shinn tends to be the type that yells quite loudly while still being able to keep his cool enough to issue some orders, which is shown during some of his conversations with the bridge communicator during battle in the canon itself.

Samples
First Person Sample: [...The feed opens up to a... Wait, is that...?]
...Looks like this place decided to be an ass and dragged me back here again. Fun.
[With a sigh, Shinn Asuka's going to run his right hand through his mop of black hair in frustration.]
So, what's the deal with this returning thing? I thought your team are supposed to be with you when you wake up from those comas.
[From the edge of the screen, you can see a very small Gastly peeking from the corner, as if looking very scared of Shinn.
...Yeah, that's definitely weird.]
Third Person Sample: With a sigh, Shinn turned off his Pokegear. This time around, he's familiar enough with how things work that he knew what to do without even thinking too hard about it. While it definitely sucked that all his trained Pokemon disappeared into thin air just like that, Shinn is not really that perplexed, considering the time discrepancy from his reappearance back home and his arrival back here being longer than a week, the world might had screwed around a bit just to erase his complete existence from its consciousness.
Actually, he's more worried about the Gastly that's hiding behind that signpost. Gastlies aren't supposed to be, you know, timid, since it just unnerves Shinn even more than the common ones found in the wild that has a penchant to prank him silly in addition to putting him in several embarrassing situations with his travel mates. Whatever, if this meant that the Pokemon was not going to do him any harm, its alright.
Scratching his head in slight confusion, he approached the scared Gastly and held out his right hand to it. "Hey," he said softly to the spirit Pokemon. "Its alright, there's no need to be afraid of me, I don't bite." Sure it sounded a bit stupid, but he really meant no harm to the Ghost Pokemon. He waved his empty right hand a bit to emphasize his point.
"See?"
After a while of staring, the Gastly began to drift over slowly to Shinn, getting further away from the signpost , all the while still looking as nervous as it was before it got out of hiding. Eventually, it reached Shinn, who just hugged it. Thinking that the male was going to do some harm to it, it struggled a bit. The effort proved futile though, as Shinn's hold was quite strong. Saying some comforting words, he stroked it gently.
"...No one's going to hurt you, so don't worry, alright?"
