it all started with a crc error on a torrent I was running.

Things snowballed, as they tend to on computers, and now it appears that my hard-drive is completely, irreversibly, 100% fubar'd. There might be more wrong. I don't know. It's a six-year-old computer, and I can't afford to get any replacement... well... anythingI'm typing this from a ( Read more... )

so, um, you... don't know me, we really just rp in the same game together and I saw your signal boost of plight/distress/whatever, and I just... I have like, two laptops literally just sitting around. one of them I'm pretty sure is on the fritz unless I can make my boyfriend fix it now rather than later, but the other one is in practically semi-new condition?

um... good deed of the day and all... if you want it, I could see what I can do??

...I would owe you forever and ever.

Hell, I'd do my best to start liking Glee if you did that kind of deed for me.

DUDE, YES. MORE PEOPLE ON THE GLEE CAST.

no, seriously, you wouldn't owe me a thing. it's like, literally just sitting around. I was using it on the rare occasion for when my sister would come over and would want a laptop to use, but... anyway, long story short, it's really just sitting around. and... I am so fucking attached to my laptop that I just can't even fathom what it would be like not to have one, you know? so if I can make your life a little bit more awesome, hey, good <3

it's relatively new-ish, too, so it's not a total piece of crap, and was used just by my mom before, so you know it didn't get a lot of use to begin with... hold on, let me figure out make/model. okay, it's an hp pavilion dv6700. so. and it runs vista, which sucks, but yeah.

I've only got 10 minutes left on this comp... if you ever spoke with the old Magica mun, she's still on my FList and can get my contact info - if not, keep a look out for Bahamut725 on the offchance that I might be online?

I'll give it some thought, see what I can do.

Shit, knowing my luck, the restore disc DIDN'T fuck up the last time I ran it (I decided to try one last time while I came out here), especially since people are offering help.

I have a perfectly serviceable desktop machine (P4 3Ghz) I picked up used just a short time ago from a garage sale. I've been playing around with it because it's the first time I've owned a Windows PC, so I know it works fine. The downside is that it's as old as your current machine, and shipping for a desktop tower would be kinda heinous.

I would be happy to chip in on shipping costs if you would rather have someone else's laptop, or if there's any other way for me to be useful here. I can't stand the thought that, on top of everything else, your opportunities for social connection and roleplay might be cut off.

(Plus -- allow me to be selfish for a moment here -- I don't want to lose Flare Star. :))

We'll see, as of tomorrow, I guess.

I fully endorse anyone interested in helping to speak with each other, but I'll just have to see what happens. Sorry for dramabombing all over everyone.

You know, I've got an XP harddrive I can send you, if you want. It's just been sitting around, particularly since I upgraded recently. It's only 4GB but that's enough to get up and running, at least? Failing that, I'm willing to chip in whatever money I can, including also boostering any shipping costs from other people.

Considering the system restore takes up 8MB at LEAST (4 mb for XP, 4+ for system restore partition), that's a smidge too small.

I seriously appreciate the thought, at least.

GB. Not MB.

Show me a kernel that fits on 4MB and I'll show you a piece of popcorn.

My last two years have sucked progressively worse as well. I wouldn't take it personally.
