is getting a scrape on your nose.
let me explain hehe.
so i go there and the guy is a bit late, so im talking to my classmate about nonesense. finally, he arrives and i meet him. my first impression of the man known as chuck is that he talks. a lot. there is no end to his talking. i figured that he may want to learn a little from me as i expected to learn from him, although this was not the case, he wanted me to listen and him to tell me what he wanted to tell me. so i listened and listened and listened, spoke a few sentences and was cut off and listened...etc. guy is relentless with his mouth.
the next part were exercises. there was streching (im not sure what i was stretching), and then there were drills. he would do things most of the time and show me what to do. more convoluted and complicated moves. it was funny because, as he was trying to demonstrate a move, he was describing it, and as he did so he stepped behind me and said "and then you disappear!" (while holding my hand). i couldn't believe he actually said that...
he let me show him things that i would do. some shuffles sufficed and i moved him easily as he was taller than 6 feet and more than 50 lbs heavier than me (with a gut, let me tell you). he continued to try and demonstrate how much better he felt his style was over mine, but i did not let it daunt me as i kept my learning demeanor. if i wanted to do what came naturally to me, i'd stop learning, and thats not my mission at that time. so i went to diffusing his throws and things and it was fun. later, after much talking to, and attempts at impressing me with his obviously greater arsenal of assault, he asked what i wanted to do.
spar. he wanted to let me set the course for the whole thing, probably to demonstrate that he could play on my terms. no big deal, so we went at it. it was fun. i didn't go sang men because if i had, i wouldn't have learned anything. i just did generic stuff. he seemed to as well, starting with throws, which he could not do, so he stopped. then he went to trying to draw me in, kicking my head, etc. i exchanged blows and hit him somewhere between 1 and 100 times, i didn't count. he soon started to tire and breath heavily. then breath very heavily. then pant. throughout the encounter he had started to copy my movements and by the end had fully mimicked my movements, which he found odd to do since he didn't know how to use them. at this point it seemed as though he wanted a way out. so he jabbed his fingernails into my nose, which i did not guard since it would not have damaged me badly. he gave me a small scrape which started to bleed. i was unaware and wanted to continue, but he insisted and apologized many times and got me a wet nap. he felt that was enough and said that he had to go.
he led me back to the entrance and asked me how i liked it. i said i learned alot, and then he inquired as to when i would be starting classes. i was confused since i hadn't said i would, but said that i was busy between school and other obligations. he said that he wanted me to come back as soon as i could. my classmate inquired as to what happened and i let him know that throws were attempted, and he started copying me. my classmate said that chuck did that because then i would never know what came next. also there were a lot of advanced things that i hadn't seen because he didn't want to show me. i let him know that i can't do sang men and learn at the same time yet. out of ideas to try and show superiority, he asked when i would start training there. i gave him the same deal. then i was brought into the office by another guy. he asked the same question. when i said that school and other obligations got in the way, he inquired as to when school would be over. i said about a month and he said that he would be sure to call me. wierded out...i said ok and left.
last week i was told that i would have the opportunity to try and hit a ninja. i succeeded, and learned a lot. i expect that i won't have to step in there again. this guy is a bully who tries to garner recruits to his school by flexing is super martial art muscles and i will have no part of that. nor of something that can't teach me something new. additionally, if they feel that they can't learn from someone they view as a beginner, then that is unfortunate and i won't go there either. with me, i learn from my students and they learn from me, everyone learns. if they press on and inquire about my choices, i'll have to be truthful. even my parents, who pride themselves on the belief of martial art equality, feel the same way. it is unfortunate that i have found another place that is like all the rest.
