Adam Monroe has never lied, not once in his four hundred years. He utilized perspective differences, made his home in half-truths-but he never lies.
Some people claim that there are only facts, and facts are absolute truths. But Adam knows better; there are only opinions and beliefs, and nothing can ever be confirmed.
Adam had not lied to Peter, because Adam does want to save the world. He wants to save it from all the horrible, unworthy people that inhabit it, and if releasing a deadly virus is the only way to do so, than he will.
Adam does want to destroy the virus- but first, he wants to release it. Let it ravage the world, and than Adam will swoop down and make it all right again, when only the truly good are left.
Because he never lies, Adam knows himself very well- he manipulates others, he’s far from sane, and he’s spent a good part of his long life as a drunkard.
Adam loved Yaeko. He’s in love with Hiro. He knows, but he’s never understood.
He can recite a long list of flaws he’s noticed in Hiro, from the small irritants he enjoys pointing out to qualities that truly frustrate him. Any good qualities he possessed would inevitably end up being regarded as flaws because of their annoyingly goody-two-shoes nature.
When Hiro confronts him in the vault under Primatech, he says nothing but the complete truth. "You were more than a friend to me. You were my inspiration."
The vial containing the virus hidden behind his back, he tells himself the reason he hasn’t dropped it to the floor and released it is because he isn’t sure what effect it will have on him. Although his blood is a heal-all, and could theoretically make him immune, he doesn’t want to risk it.
Only when Hiro has grabbed hold of his shoulder and teleported them far away does he release it.
And, because Adam knows himself, he’ll admit he lied.
