Sooo, I went a lot back through the gameplay tag and after 70 entries back I found that nobody else has asked this.If it's more back then I apologize already mods.
idk but i think one of the 'main' ways to make sure he's alive is if morrigan and him do it or if you leave him at the gates before the final battle. i've never let him die tbh. it would kill me inside, haha.
I know,it's horrible to be honest. The poor guy has already killed himself three times now no matter if I tell him he's crazy/coward/I love him etc etc. Actually I start laughing a lot when I told him he was going nuts he kissed the character and then died anyway. My jaw dropped.
If Alistair is in love with you and Morrigan's offer was not taken he will sacrifice himself for you whether you are in an active relationship or not. After he dumped my Surana I started her in a relationship with Zev and he still took the sacrifice for her.
The only way to keep him alive in that situation is to leave him at the gates.
Fuuuuuck. I'll try to every dialougue's options and I'll even try to send him far away from the archdemon with the position's options.Maybe it will work :'(
I'm pretty sure it won't. Like seren_bach said, you have to leave him at the gates.
I had the same experience my first time through Origins. Utterly destroyed me. It also made no sense, because I was playing an assassin Rogue and I was like "I could sucker punch him! Why the hell are you not allowing me an option to not let him sacrifice himself?!"
So although it technically requires leaving him at the gate to not have him die, my headcanon is the former. :P
I think you have to be at 100% approval. If it dips a little then I think you can talk him out out of it - so if you call him an ass when you break up or something that lowers approval then you should be okay.
I think I am. Good. Thank god I've never asked him about life in chantry or anything,so even though the romance dialogue's options are off I'll talk to him before the fight against the archdemon and try to piss him off!
Yeah, I'd try that. I'm pretty sure that otherwise the dialouge options just decide whether you get a last kiss or not. It's been a while since I played an Alistair romance though so I'm not sure.
I know. It pisses me off to no end the lack of proper reaction from the party's members. Leliana and Wynne =/ . He's such an amazing character though. ;____; Next time I'll leave him to the gates/accept Morrigan's ritual.
