Campaign Websites

May 19, 2009 18:48

Just finished downloading the last campaign site. Four elections on one day! It's not enough that we've got five state propositions generating 13 websites. The LA city run-off elections sites proved to be particularly harrowing -- only a few candidates, but there must have been a lot of money in those campaigns, because many of them had huge websites using all the latest flashy web tech (like Flash), the kind of sites that tend to choke our poor capture software. Then there were the two special legislative elections: 32nd Congressional District and 26th State Senate District. Only two districts shouldn't be a problem -- we capture sites for about 100 districts in a regular election. But for some reason California's 32nd Congressional District, recently vacated by Hilda Solis to become Secretary of Labor, attracted 12 candidates! Add in the fact that every candidate or ballot measure has a Facebook page today, and this minor off-season election was a big pain in the ass.
