Woo! It's... story time.

Title: Adamo Lupum
Pairing: Sirius/Remus
Rating: Oh... R, I suppose? Kinda? I hate rating stories.
Warnings: None, really, unless lycanthropy really scares you (in which case, why are you even thinking of reading Sirius/Remus?)
Summary: Sirius loves everything about Remus, even the wolf that lurks inside him.
Props: pornish_pixies, surprisingly, for putting the idea in my head. Was sort of inspired by their 'Learning By Numbers' challenge. My original idea was Sirius comparing James and Remus, but I think this is nicer and more poignant, in the end. Also to heinous_bitca and primroseburrows for helping me out with titling. ;) And finally, the wit contained within the dashes in the second line of the story is courtesy the late great Douglas Adams (his line went something like "a liquid tasting almost, but not entirely unlike tea").

There was Remus, and then there was the wolf. Remus had come to accept his fate and the existence of this other being - someone almost but not entirely unlike himself - and those who knew of his affliction came slowly to understand the difference as well. None, however, felt the difference quite so acutely as Sirius.

It had been Remus who Sirius had first felt attraction for, but it had been the wolf who had smelled the attraction and acted upon it. Soon, Sirius realised that the wolf was not merely a being that was let loose in the dead of night once a month, but he lurked just beneath Remus' calm exterior, waiting to feel strong enough to appear.

The wolf occupied Remus in full force for just a couple of days, at the very height of the full moon, but for a few days before and after, he could come out in the smallest ways. Remus would snap at a particularly rowdy group of first years in the Common Room, or glared at James for suggesting he take the night off of studying, and that was how most people noticed.

Sirius noticed in different ways. Sure, the short temper was a giveaway, but at night the wolf was stronger, and Sirius could tell much earlier than most that he would be snapping at the first years. By the time they were about to finish their years at Hogwarts, Sirius had been sleeping by Remus' side every night they were at school for two years. He knew how Remus slept - how heavily, on what side, and how long it took for him to start snoring - and when the wolf was around, there was a tension in his shoulders which no amount of coaxing or massaging could relieve.

Remus kissed differently from the wolf, and Sirius could tell at the first touch of his lips. Remus was gentle, soft, and warm. He would sift his fingers idly through Sirius' shaggy black hair, taking his time, and he would always let Sirius lead him. The wolf was rough, hard, and scalding hot. He would grab Sirius intently, letting him know who was in control, and always made Sirius kneel on all fours as he fucked him from behind.

There were the in-between nights, when Remus would return to control of his body after the wolf had had his way, and he would sometimes cry, pressing his apologies into Sirius' chest. Sirius was a man of extremes, and could handle both the tenderness of Remus and the ferocity of the wolf, but the in-between nights often kept him awake, worrying that he had not convinced Remus that the wolf had not hurt him, and he felt the tension in Remus' shoulders come and go throughout the night.

Sirius knew that Remus hated the wolf, resented it, and was waiting for the day when wizarding medicine had found a cure - or at least a very strong suppressant - but secretly, Sirius loved the wolf as well. As Padfoot, Sirius had the same connection with the wolf in full form as much as he had with Remus in his full form, and he knew he would miss the wolf if he was ever restrained.

In the end, it didn't matter to Sirius which being inhabited Remus's body at any particular time. He knew them both - the wolf and Remus, and all the points in between - and he loved them and made love to them both. Lycanthropy was an affliction that would be with Remus until he died, and one night as he held Remus' alternately tense and relaxed shoulders, Sirius vowed that he would be with Remus until he died.
