Budgeting and Couponing

Mar 12, 2010 14:25

So, I have been inspired to make myself actually start menu planning and budgeting a grocery bill.  I thought I was doing a fine job by going to the store with the "spend AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!" mindset, but after reading this series:

I have been inspired to believe that buckling down and being organized can save us even more money.

Also, I have thought in the past that coupons were only useful for people who bought name brands, and even then they still spent just as much as if they bought off-brand items instead. But apparently it is possible, if you pay attention, to get items for free with coupons. Especially things like toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc..) that you don't have to buy regularly but which, when you do, cost a lot. So, I think I am going to try couponing as well. To any grocery buyers reading this, you are probably nodding in agreement and saying "why hasn't she been doing this all along?". But since I am repenting of my folly O:) instead you should just leave a comment telling me the one or two imperative things I should always do, or that has helped you the most.

We'll see how it goes...

Oh yeah, and you should also leave a comment telling me which stores are generally cheaper and/or have the best deals. In my head Wal-mart is pretty high up there.... am I wrong?
