an amalgam of information

So here is what my life is about right now

1) sleep - I'm actually getting enough of this... just, not for more than 3 hours at a time.  My wonderful husband is consistently willing to take the 6-8 am feeding (that means it falls somewhere in there, not that it takes that long) so I can sleep after getting up at 11, 2 and 5.... but still, 3 hours at a time is the MAX I get these days, usually more like 1.5 or 2 hours.  However, not much else is going on, so I can take as many naps as I need.

2) cloth diapers - are NOT SCARY!!  Of course, I'm saying this after all of 2 days, so maybe I'll change my mind.... but honestly, they're a little bit more labor intensive to change, but not half as much (or as complicated) as I thought they might be.  My wonderful friends gave us a huge chinese pre-fold starter pack, and my mom got me a diaper pail, and washing is pretty easy (just throw them in and start it up).  Drying is interesting, since I don't have a rack or a clothesline (and cloth diapers in the dryer take twice as long as normal, so I'm going with air dry to save on electricity).... but I managed to find enough places to hang.  And when it gets warmer, maybe I'll put up a clothesline.  maybe I'll weed my garden this summer too... (yeah right)

3) child - oh yeah, I have a kid now.  Mostly he squirms and wiggles and sleeps.  Also he eats and screams and poops.  Pretty much in that order. He sounds like a bird of prey when he cries, because he has this really high pitched, offended-sounding scream that he always starts off with.  We're used to it, but it always catches other people by surprise.  I like him though.  We're gonna keep him.

4) cold - this will probably come as no surprise to anybody, but the last week was FRIGGIN' COLD. It snowed last week (Thursday? Friday?), and there is STILL snow on the ground in places and ice on the lakes. This is completely the opposite of the last time, when the snow disappeared in 24 hours. We discovered that our front door is practically a sieve for cold air, and so now it has rags stuffed in the cracks all around it and we use only the side door. Oh yeah, and our electric bill tripled in 2 months. Fun, fun.

5) post c-section - I'm healing fine.  I had an infection at my incision, so my doctor prescribed me an antibiotic for a week, and that seemed to take care of it. I'm within 20 pounds of the weight I'd like to be at, and this is after only 3 weeks of breastfeeding and not exercising at all.  I'm not actually allowed to exercise (aside from walking, which I might do today because its much warmer) until 6 weeks... I never thought I'd be upset to be told I COULDN'T exercise, but sitting around the house all days lends itself to feeling pretty lethargic.  I'll survive somehow.

6) I'm going to be 26 in 3 weeks.  That's weird.

7) Our washer/dryer started leaking last week.  First it was leaking from where the water hoses connect to the unit, and so I tried to turn the water off.  It kept dripping. This went on for a few days until I got fed up with not being able to wash clothes and did some laundry anyway, only to discover that now the cold water was leaking from the spigot where you turned it on/off. So I dropped a dishpan under the leak, turned the water off when the washer wasn't actually filling, and left it.  2 days later Rainey finally got time to fix it, and that was a huge saga in and of itself that involved 2 different trips to the hardware store, and almost 50$ worth of tools and parts.  The good news is my husband is wonderful and fixed it and now everything is fine.

8) Huckleberry - is very deprived and ignored these days.  He's like the oldest child who doesn't get attention anymore.... except he also has to live outside and REALLY doesn't get attention anymore.  Especially since I pretty much gave up walking since it got freezing cold and I didn't have a heater in my uterus to keep me warm anymore. Sometimes he is rescued by the neighbor girls who bring him to their yard and play with him for a while.  A few days I've ventured out for a 5 minute walk.  Today its warmer, so I think I'll venture out with William bundled up in his stroller.

9) I've decided I want to see Avatar in theaters, or not at all. Dunno which one its going to be.

10) The end.
