sistabro and I attended the mayday parade yesterday. See below for pictoral evidence:

The rest can be found here. Not pictured: The seventeen tall bikes, two taller-than-average-but-not-quite-tall bikes, and one tall unicycle; a ton of other people in crow masks (that apparently don't photograph well), and Al Franken, who was just chatting at the back of the unofficial part of the parade, right behind the Minnesota Atheists.

Also, there was a reason why everyone in the crowd is wearing winter clothing: it was damned cold outside. Like, 35 degrees. There were flurries. And we were out for hours. But it's okay-I'm mostly warm now!. . . Mostly

Speaking of people who dress all in black and are incredibly cold, Game of Thrones, 1x03!

Spoilers start right after this one last suitably creepy picture:

*Arya Arya Arya OMG Maisie is just like how I imagined her in the books, as is her water dancer teacher. She's such a kid, but it's not cutesy or precocious at all. And she and Sansa seem like real sisters to me-the way that Sansa seems to be constantly annoyed with everything she does.

*Oh, Ned and his daughters. Giving a 13 year-old girl who's already betrothed a doll right after you kill her wolf, really Ned? But I've got a soft spot for clueless parental units, and his conversation about family and needle was really spot on.

*And Jon at the wall-Jon's so similar to Ned at this point, he's got this incredibly noble view of the world, and he's suddenly dropped into this place that's a lot more dealier than he was expecting. Both Jon looking out over the wall and Ned hearing the sounds of battle as he watching Arya practice for the first time. The only difference is Jon has people who he trusts to give good advice, and Ned's got Littlefinger. Kinda.

*Tyrion at Castle Black. I wonder how unusual it is, for him to be considered an important influence, rather than just a source of income to be tolerated. I wonder how much that seems like desperation to him. Also, him pissing off the wall and shaking Jon's hands right afterwards.

*King's Landing wasn't really how I imagined it, but it's still a very believable place. But all the actors seemed to be spot on-Varys gives me the creeps, and I've been vibrating at the idea of Carcetti as Littlefinger ever since I heard of the casting. I love Catelyn's reactions to Littlefinger more than anything else: Catelyn really did seem to be having an only slightly more grown up version of a Sansa snit when he installs her at a whorehouse, and the way that Catelyn just sort of chides Ned for nearly choking Littlefinger to death-hee!

*Cercei and Jeoffery and Robert. Christ, dealing with each other, no wonder they're all that fucked up. Jaime only looks good in comparison.

*And I sort of forgot about the Danaerys plotline until now. Um. I'm glad she's figuring out she has more power than her brother, now?
