I tagged myself in
tinsolitus's journal. If anyone wants to participate, leave a comment and I'll pick 7 interests from your profile and list them and then you have to post in your journal why you like them, the history of the interest, etc and then you do the same and it becomes a cycle where we get to know more about each other! yay! :)
(this is round number 2 for me - so much fun!... if you feel you want to know something else about me, add the interest to your comment and I'll throw it in here. Can you tell I love to talk about myself? *grin*)
buffy scholarship (copied from my last interest meme since I have nothing new to report haha): I'm a huge dork. HUGE. With that, I am a total die-hard Whedonist, so anything related to the great and mighty Joss Whedon I eat up and love forever. So imagine my surprise when, while writing my first Buffy essay for a class, I stumbled upon slayageonline.com - the Buffy online journal. With that and the mound of Buffy anthologies (Sex and the Slayer, Five Seasons of Buffy, Philosophy of Buffy, the Art of Buffy...) I became obsessed with Buffy Scholarship. I want nothing more than to take a Buffy class and I've written two essays about Buffy in my undergrad. I also have anthologies of other shows like "Angel" "Firefly" "Grey's Anatomy" and "The L Word" but Buffy is my favorite to study :)
text messaging: I love to text message. Sadly my new phone makes me not like it as much, but I plan to get a new-new phone so hopefully that changes. I'm really really really good at T9word text messaging. I usually don't like to talk on the phone, so I do most of my communication via texting. My bff and I probably exchange 100 or so a week - at least! That's just casual conversation. She and I play the "quote game" which is a back and forth game of quoting some of our favorite things like Dane Cook, Mean Girls, Liar Liar, Bad Boys 2... that's when we can hit over 1000 a week. My roommate and I only communicate via texting when we're not talking online or face-to-face.
activism: I love to do activist work. I did berma shaving and protesting (or counter protesting) a few years ago but I've focused more on education/outreach activism. I feel like voices need to be heard and I am outspoken enough that I feel right at home to talk as loud and as often as possible. I'm very very passionate about my beliefs. My main focuses are gay rights (before I came out and after), womyn's rights (pro-choice, pro-agency, etc), and I've begun work in Immigration rights/Latina rights.
broadway: I am in love with Broadway shows. Mostly dramas and always musicals. I enjoy the non-musical shows, but I was brought up on shows like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. My first show was Cats (saw it twice), I've seen Les Miz *thinks* 6 times, Phantom 5 times, RENT 3 times (and planning to see it on it's final tour w/ Anthony and Adam!!), Mama Mia 3 times, Wicked 1 time, Aida 1 time (seeing it again in a week), Lion King 1 time, Beauty and the Beast 1 time, Dances with Vampires 1 time (didn't make it out of previews, but I saw it with Michael Crawford as the lead! *swoon*), and many more that I can't think of haha My family's big on it and we make a big deal out of going to the theatre. I also never take off a necklace of the comedy/tragedy theatre faces that I got from some friends when I turned 18.
queer music: Queer music is (what I call) music that is created by and for queer people. Or music that is created by queer people and can be enjoyed by everyone but doesn't stick us in heteronormativity. I'm thinking Alix Olson, Andrea Gibson, Ani Difranco, Katie Reider (RIP), Melissa Ferrick, Bitch & Animal, Betty... there are so many that I can't think of haha But being a lesbian I love to have women singing about loving other women. It's hard to find main stream but I love the artists who do perform queer music. Plus it's easier to get to see them in concert haha
traveling: As strange as it may be, I love the process of traveling. I love to pack, I love going to the airport, I love being in the terminal, flying, going someplace different... my biggest draw to traveling is my family. A majority of my family lives in the Southwest while I live in the Mid-West (aka Bible Belt territory lol). I go out to visit my mom and grandparents at LEAST twice a year and for a few weeks at a time. If I had more money I'd go more often. I love to take books and just read on the plane - no computer, no cell phone... just a good book and a couple hours of silence.
sarah barelleis: I enjoy her music :) "Love Song" "Vegas" "Bottle It Up" "Fairytale" "Gravity"... she's awesome and "Love Song" was my summer song last year. I loooooove it :) Plus I got my mom to fall in love with that song and when we went to LA via the car, we spent five hours both ways going through her XM radio to find the song and only heard it twice! haha
That's a little more of me! :)
