Stress begins

Salut everyone! The last two weeks have been fairly uneventful, though busy. I'm starting to have my schedule for the next three weeks completely booked. I didn't think that I was going to have that much finals work to do (just three papers and an exam) but I have a lot of little things to do, and with working at the ILO conference at the same time things are going to be really busy. I've started going swimming on Saturday mornings with my friend Hilary at a pool close to the UN. It's a really nice, clean, HUGE pool and it feels really good to swim again! I've been getting a ton of exercise lately because I always try to walk home from downtown which is at least a couple of miles. That's good, but it's been quite disgustingly hot and humid lately. Though at night there are usually thunderstorms and it cools down. I haven't had my internship these past two weeks because my boss was still in Africa, though he is back now.

Last week I went to see the Geneve Opera Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker". I have no idea why it was in May...I guess the Swiss are just strange like that. I went with Pauline (my Italian flatmate), Hilary, Katie and Katie's dancer flatmate Takuro. It was a super modern production and I was so close to liking it, but I didn't quite get there. In the party scene there were a bunch of neon-colored boxes and the people were doing contemporary dancing. And in the snow scene there was a polar bear running around. Yes, it was a bit strange. But it was super rainy that night and we were absolutely soaked by the time we'd gotten back here. The next day we didn't have class because it was Ascension. I just stayed in and worked all day.

That weekend Clarice, my Brazilian roommate, and I planned our trip to the UK. I'm really excited for that week that we're going to spend travelling around. And I'm also excited to me Daniel Radcliffe so that we can at last fall in love and get married and buy our cottage in the English country side. How spectacular that will be! She's so sweet and I really love hanging out with her. Right now, a older Brazilian woman who is a friend of her's is back in Brazil and she is apartment sitting for her right now. This woman has a family, so they live in one of the family apartments in the building. It is really neat and reminds me a lot of the apartments in Orchard Downs, where I spent the first 6 years of my life. They also have a TV up there and tonight we went up and watched some "Grey's Anatomy". It also has a nicer view because it's on the 4th floor.

This week has been busy because I've been getting a lot of assignments for the next few weeks. Turns out I have a cumulative exam (before exam period) for Russian and some other assignments for that class as well. I also have to work on my papers and study for my exams. I'm also nervous about the conference because I have no idea of what I'm going to be doing and I have no logistical details yet. Hopefully I will find these things about before the conf. starts on Wednesday.

Last night I went to a Young Democrats Abroad social gathering. I know one of the guys who is on the exec-board and he invited me. So Hilary and I went and it was in a really nice cafe in the Parc des Bastions. It was nice meeting other Americans since I hadn't really met any others in Geneva...haha...I think the idea of "young" goes up to about 30, so it was funny because Hilary and I and this guy I know (who's in grad school) and his friend were at one end of the table and we were describing it as the "kid's table" because we were so much younger than any of the others. It was very fun, though! I hope everyone is having a good start to their summers! I'll try to keep you updated as the work piles on. Bisoux and bonne nuit! :)
