On Aug 22, 2008 and after 3 hours of wait and inspite of booking in advanced for the purchase, I finally picked up the iPhone 3G at 21:30hrs. If the first iPhone owner in Singapore was upset with the little fanfare that very day, he should have arrived in the evening to see the v. long queue and all the freebies Singtel was giving away including umbrellas and offering screen protectors for S$7.50 -- a third of what you pay in the stores.
From a mad Apple-Mac-evangelist's view, the iPhone 3G feels like the first Bondi Blue iMac I owned. With still a lot of room for improvement, and still very revolutionary, the iPhone did not fail the 3G Data test even though I chose to retain the 50GB Broadband on Mobile (data) plan with Singtel. Screen is so sharp and bright, people standing 3 feet away can see what you are typing lor!
While our notorious American and Australian counterparts are whining at broadband speeds, I must bring your attention to the mediocre 3G infrastructure they have given their size. City networks tend to be better nonetheless.
As a former user of Sony Ericsson K800i and Nokia N81 (2GB) phones, these handsets were the early variants of 3G type phones. Data surfing was mediocre on early 3G phones, even though I had the 50GB Broadband on Mobile for more than a year! So to me, surfing was albeit a lot faster for the iPhone 3G.
Windows Mobile users or psuedo ones were quick to point out the lack of a 5MP camera and shorty battery life. Like theirs were any better, the image quality is still somewhat unexpectedly good for a 2MP (1024x768) !
No more strange Nokia magenta hues. For original sizes, see
here I am so looking forward to more mobile game releases for the iPhone. Ironically, the games on Windows Mobile are aiyoh-so-boring!! ;)
