As the Australian election draws near, the government has announced several measures in place to counter opposition leader, Kevin Rudd's backward looking Anti-Industrial Relations (IR) program. Of particular interests are its new guidelines to curtail immigration inspite of a rapidly ageing population, and the unresolved shortages in skilled labour.
I have never been too ambitious about courting dreams and future plans; because idealism ignores uncertainty and change. And i have been unable to put a finger on whether permanent residency will work in my favour. So, until the time is near, I will enjoy the fruits of my labour thus far. I have been enlightened by how the big lobby groups coerced the opposition from pursuing IR reforms, and how politicians have used the media to deride the current government. Such are these, that one does not see them back home.
