LG Prada Phone KE850
We thought Sony Ericsson might beat Nokia to it when it comes to delivering new models to the mass market. Who could have thought that Korean-flagged manufacturer LG would team up with Prada to produce an IF-award winning phone, encased in a glossy, black, iPhone-like finish.
The question herein lies whether LG was copying Apple. Needless to say, we do know Apple has a history of copying too, but it does it a whole lot better. Where Microsoft inadvertently tries to produce visually stimulating graphics in its over-hyped and confusing varieties of Vista, AERO requires you to have 1GB of RAM, a pixel shading capable graphics card that carries at least 128MB of VRAM, where, by contrast, Apple's Quartz finishes off nicely even with a 32MB of ATI Radeon chipset on a mimalist G3 700Mhz processor, a microprocessor of yesteryears.
Just as first-mover Creative has shown us; that mimicking designs off the iPod is truely the last thing you should do; and resorting to suing Apple for infringing on the Click Wheel on its iPods, after bleeding profusely for two years could be the only way to salvage what shares is left vested in the firm; why should anyone continue to risk their fortunes in this copying business?
While first-movers are often known to sweep through the world's market to their advantage, but as they degenerate into tardy elephant-sized enterprises, it is the late bloomers that finishes the race first - eventually that is.
The LG-Prada branding is an abberation in the most strictest fashion sense. You might expect a Vertu-Louis Vuitton partnership but the LG-Prada is beyond comprehension. But I must say, at least, LG still has a fairly creatively designed piece of plastic.
