i am so depressed. i lost my cupcake tote bag with several things in it: favorite black cardigan from h&m, red scarf, red beret that my sister knit me, my sketchbook, my recent paycheck (which may or may not have my social security number on it, i don't know for sure), a folder with documents from work, a small all-over bird print zip-up nylon bag, a polka dot umbrella, and an ipod nano (first generation). i can't believe i lost all of these things in ONE NIGHT. i feel like a HUGE IDIOT. i should only carry one bag, and not two. i've been carrying two bags for the past 4 months for work, and i can't believe that i would be so absent minded as to forget to pick up the other one just now.
a friend of mine asked me to meet up with him at union square to just hang out, so i said okay. we met up at the sf shopping center, roamed around a little bit. we hit up urban outfitters, and then h&m, and it was there that i think that i accidently set it down to pick up something else to look at in the store. it was probably around 8:40PM, when i had lined up at the cash register, that's when i realized that i was missing my tote.
i feel like such an idiot for setting it down and not remembering to pick it back up. how stupid could i have been to be so absent minded?? i called during closing around 10:30pm, and H&M said they didn't find anything and nothing turned up in their lost and found. i tried going to sleep but i woke up in the middle night just absolutely upset about the whole matter. i have so much anxiety that my chest even hurts a little, and all night i just kept dreaming about losing all my items. i understand that maybe i'm being really materialistic, but god, i lost SEVERAL things all at once. the things that might have the most monetary value would be the USB, the ipod, and my paycheck, but everything was were personal items. and god, to lose things that you use on a regular basis, REALLY really hurts.
i am especially sad that i lost my sketchbook. i've been using the same sketchbook since my last semester of my college until now, and to lose that really upsets me. so many things and ideas were sketched out.. i feel like i've lost a huge part of me. it's as if i had lost a diary.
so i called h&m again this morning and the associate said he would speak to his manager. half an hour later, his manager calls me and asks me detailed questions about where/what/when i was in the store. i told her all that i could, and i even told her what i was wearing and the time i was in the store so that she could watch the surveillance video during that time. she said it's going to take a lot of leg work, but she's going to try her best and call me back by the end of today. i wanted to file a lost/found report to the SF city police, but their phone-in hours are only monday - friday. i can try to do a walk in today, but that means going all the way back to SF today. i am hoping that if the video shows that someone had taken it, that there's a slight possibility that i can use that as evidence to file a report so that MAYBE the police can track down this person. but obviously this isn't a high priority compared to homcides..
i seriously retraced all my steps in h&m, and even my friends were attempting to help me. but i feel like it's a lost cause now.. i want someone to tell me that it's okay, but i don't think it's okay. it hurts to lose a lot of your things, and the feeling that someone had taken it hurts even more. god, it's like take the usb and the nano, i don't care. but leave the rest! i really wish that that person had taken it into the fitting room or something and had tossed the useless things aside. i'd rather have something found than nothing at all.
i've been so desperate that i've made 3 postings online for lost items, including facebook, craigslist, and backpage.com. i want to believe that there are better people in this world, but all we have here are crooked people who just want to take things and not return them.
