Curses, foiled again.

Another agility trial down the tube. First there was the rose bush affair that ended our specialty debut. Then there was the Eugene trial where Bea was stiff and sore and so no weaves after the first day. Now it's the 4th of July and my friends are running their dogs at the PAC trial. Well, maybe in this heat they're trotting quickly and sweating a lot but they are there and I am here. This time it appears the culprit is the cherry tree.

Two weeks ago Bea was urinating frequently, got me up over night, and peed in the house. This was on a Friday night, of course, so we went to the emergency vet on Saturday morning and started a course of antibiotics for what appeared to be a urinary tract infection. I had mentioned the cherry pits to that vet but she didn't think ithat was the culprit. After the antibiotics were finished, I followed up with a vet appointment and had a urinalysis which was clear. However, shortly after that she started peeing a lot, got me up overnight, and peed in the house again. What's up with that?? My vet suggested I keep her away from the cherry pits in my yard as an experiment. She thought the sheer volume of what Bea was eating could have upset her stomach and system generally and caused a Ph imbalance or some such thing. I have a big, beautiful, bountiful cherry tree that I love dearly. It's huge and many cherries rot on the tree and fall to the ground. No matter how many cherries I pick up, there are more and more laying there waiting to be eaten. After I started observing her more I've seen that Bea has a binge eating problem with the rotted cherry pits. Even Ceanna doesn't down as many as Bea does and that's saying a LOT. And of course Ceanna is a big girl and Bea is a wee one.

So because Bea was feeling poorly, peeing all the time, and not wanting to run, I pulled out of the PAC trial. Now I've fenced off the tree to see if this could be the problem and we're staying home. So far, after about 40 hours of no cherries she seems to be doing better. Last night she slept through the night. Joy for me.

The alleged culprit:

Meanwhile Ceanna Rose is struggling. Her legs continue to give out and she is having freguent episodes of what can only be described as panic attacks. She'll stand right in front of me and pant and shake and nothing soothes her, until it does. It's just weird. The vet thinks it's cognitive dysfunction. The heat doesn't help but she'll do this when it's cool as well.

Ceanna under the cherry tree in much better days.

Weather news: Looks like a cooling trend is on the way. The last two days it was 100 degrees. The prediction for the next 5 days is only around 95. Break out the winter clothing.
