The graphic designer that came with us to Ecuador (check out www.studiothoughtcrimez.com/photojournal) had a nifty little photo viewing/storing/editing thinger - I believe it was the Vista from this company, or something very similar. You'd need to have lots of batteries though, or a proper adaptor for charging the device.

Memory sticks are also called jump drives. You basically stick 'em into a usb port and they're WAY smaller and carry way WAY more stuff than floppies. Here are some randomly googled examples from Lexar this. _nowhere_ bought one for S that has an mp3 player built in - much more portable than taking a cd player with you - and you can fit tons of music on them.

Anyhow, both of these options are much more portable (and way cheaper!) than a laptop.

Of course, if you would like to post photos once in a while to make the rest of us jealous (and I for one hope you do), you can host them on www.photobucket.com. I woudn't bother using email at all to send photos when you can just upload them to photobucket and then tell people where the link to photobucket (or your livejournal) is. If you need a mini-tutorial in posting photos on lj any one of us can give you a hand.
