Last night's reading of A Girl's Guide to Saving the Universe went well.
Well enough that they want to do the whole process again. As in, I rewrite the play, they do another reading, and we see where we go from there.
This process reminds me of being at The Theatre School. However, since this is the first time the real world has reminded me of the cocoon of college process, I'm somewhat leery of the whole thing. It's one of those..."wait, this is going how I want it to go...that never happens, what is going on here really?"
But mostly, it's going in the direction I want the process to go. I need to do some serious work. Mainly on the main character as she lacks color right now. The strongest character is the talking lantern. Mary says he serves the same purpose in the play as Rupert Everett does in My Best Friend's Wedding. Which is probably why he's the strongest -- because I've been that person for others before.
Sadly though, only Deb got my Chicago jokes. (I was hoping that Sarah and Paul would show up -- because the DePaul joke was FUNNY. If you know the context. Which a bunch of people who never left Miami don't.)
But it's good and it looks like they're interested in the piece, which is great for me.
